yes, these are cramps lol. just drink more water, and maybe get some more potassium. but def, DEF drink more water. and the more you run the easier it gets.

My old personal trainer used to say that wherever you felt the pain was where your muscles were weakest. However, you might also want to have a friend watch you run to make sure that your form is correct. You might be holding your arms too high (hence the chest pain.) Make sure you keep your arms nice and loose. I run every second day (2 marathons last summer) and I've never had a sore chest (then again, I also have small boobs!)

Just wanted to add to what was posted above about form. I've noticed if I cross my arms in front of me while running...pain. Try to keep your arms moving straight up and down at your sides, and don't let them cross your body in front of you.

Actually, it's probably not cramps. If you are running fast then you are really using your whole body as you run...your arms are pumping, your core is working like mad to stabilize the body, your back and shoulders are in the game too. I am always sore ALL OVER after a marathon or speed work. This is why I cross train and lift weights, so that my whole body is prepared for a good hard run.

If you think you aren't running that fast it could be that you are a little too tense when you're running. On your next run pay attention to your shoulders and hands. Are your shoulders rising up towards your ears, feeling tense? Are your hands clenched? If so, make it a point to relax the shoulders as you run and keep your hands loose. Not only will you direct more of your energy to the parts of your body that actually need it, but it will be a more enjoyable run overall.

Good luck and congrats on starting the C25K!

Also, to help with sore muscles, try Epsom Salt Baths. Epsom Salts can be found in the pharmacy area (look in the area for burns OR in the laxative area) of most grocery stores like Wal-mart. Sprinkle two cups of Epsom Salts in a warm bath and soak for about 15 minutes. Try and do it twice a week. You'll be amazed at how your muscle aches go away. Great job on the running! :flowerforyou:

In my beginners running class we get taught that the arms come in a lot in keeping up your momentum, so if you swing your arms about a lot (or hunch your shoulders and tense up) then yeah it'll hurt if you're not used to it! Apparently they should be bent 90 degrees at the elbows, but not tensed, and you should bring them back and forth roughly in time with your legs, coz it helps keep the momentum as well as distracting you from what your legs are doing, thereby helping you keep going :) Or so i'm told!!

They always get us to do lots of arm stretching post-run to try to prevent arm soreness, try that next time you run :)

If this is muscle soreness after your run, I don't think it is cramps. You might be carrying a little tension in your upper back/chest area that is resulting in the soreness. As far as your sides, your core might be a little weak. Running takes a surprising amount of core strength, especially as you get more tired and your form begins to deteriorate.

Try focusing on holding your arms a little more than 90degrees. That might force you to relax a bit.

Yes, it may be cramps. Drink more water before, during, and after your runs. Your body takes a lot of abuse when you are running. It could be just your body getting used to the impact.

Tender to touch ...u know that love the soreness cause u know u did something! I was wondering if it was from everything jiggling up and down..was burning something underneith all this chub! Which is great! I just wasnt sure that running would cause other parts of my body besides my legs to get worked!
