Applesauce BROWNIES!!!

7 tablespoons flour
½ cup cocoa
¼ teaspoon salt
2 egg whites
1 large egg
¾ cup white sugar
8 tablespoons applesauce
1 ½ teaspoons vanilla
1 tablespoon walnuts (chopped)

Options: Add 1 tsp cinnamon or use cinnamon applesauce to counteract bitter taste.
Instead of 2 egg whites, use 3/4 cup egg beaters



Directions:
1. Combine flour, cocoa, and salt; mix well.
2. Whisk together egg whites, egg, sugar, applesauce, and vanilla.
3. Add egg mixture to flour mixture. Mix until blended, but DON'T overmix.
4. Pour into greased 8 inch pan.
5. Sprinkle with walnuts.
6. Bake at 350°F for 25 minutes.

Makes 16 servings.

    Your just replacing the oil with the applesauce..which is very interchangeable..pumpkin bars you can do the same thing..it lessens the fat and calories of baked goods..so I would imagine they still tast like brownies..I know I have done this with even Pillsbury mixes..

    Sounds yummy!!! I have also replaced butter / margarine in recipes (recently in banana bread) with cold-milled flax (I got a big bag at Costco) and it actually was good! It has omega-3 in it too :) so win-win to replacing fats with good stuff!

    Flour---- All purpose flour? I like to use whole wheat but I'm assuming the lack of baking power and flexibility would mess with the taste ... any suggestions? A mix of the two or something.
