Hello there

I would love sample programs for strength training or tips.

I have very poor upper body strength but better lower body. I want to see definition in my muscle. I made a fitness plan which includes strength training. This is my week 2, but when I lift weights or do exercises that engage large muscle groups I haven't felt as sore as I expected to feel.

Help!

^ That is a terrible strength training routine. Not a single squat or dead-lift in there, and wrist curls... really?

OP do some research on 5x5, Starting strength (mark rippetoe), and New Rules For Lifting. All great programs, all offer great progress.

Also does anyone else think this conversation sounded a little too planned?

Like others have said, New Rules of Lifting for Women. It's been great! Even if you don't follow their plan exactly, it has great instructions to get you started on things like barbell lifts.

Yes. Available on Amazon for a very reasonable price. I've read through the whole book; it's worth every penny.

Do not adjust a program unless you are a fairly experienced lifter and know how to adjust it to your body. If you are beginning fresh, I recommend Stronglifts 5x5 as it has you start off with the bar only with compound exercises. Just like Addison said, the first program posted is absolutely horrible. You will not see the results you're expecting with that...in fact I'm surprised it didn't tell you to use pink 2lb weights.

Doing random exercises will give you the following results:

Build your body proportionally and as suggested get a proven workout. Starting Strength, All Pro's, 5x5 and New Rules is a good start
