Very bad day...

So, I washout till almost two in the morning to help make maple syrup last night. Got up around noon today and ended up "skipping" lunch. Did my Zumba, went and got some subway. I ate dinner, then decided to make some popcorn before finishing the dishes. Put the kernels in a paper bag, folded and taped it as normal. Hit popcorn then went into the living room. About thirty seconds later, we heard a beeping noise (the sound on the microwave has been off for a while). I run into the kitchen, and the microwave is on fire! I panicked and opened it, and somehow got half the burnt baton the floor, burning the hell out of my middle finger. Luckily my husband came and put it out, not understanding why I was jumping around shaking my hand like a weirdo.
Needless to say, I completely lost my appetite. Almost 900 under for the day.
And I feel like a complete retard to set the microwave on fire making popcorn, of all things!!

Awww that does sound like a pretty rough day. Hang in there tomorrow is a new day, at least the fire was contained to the microwave and it didn't become an even worse situation.
Hope tomorrow is better for you.0 -
tape deffinitly should not go in the microwaveee
i had a friend who was so tired that she left a knife in the microwave, dam they are expensive.

I've set my microwave on fire making popcorn too.
No worries, tomorrow is a new day
Hope your finger feels better tomorrow :flowerforyou:0 -
At least eat some comfort food to help your nerves and get your calorie count a little closer.
I recommend a Snickers bar.
'glad the house didn't burn down!
Get some rest.

Awww don't feel bad! I killed a microwave before making a vegan soy burger. The numbers wouldn't light up and I thought I hit 3:33 but I ended up hitting 33:33. :blushing: I forgot it was in there and was waiting for the beep. Had to get rid of that microwave. The smell wouldn't get out of the apartment for days. hahaha:flowerforyou:0

Yes! Honestly I feel the worst about ruining the microwave. Lame, but I'm still staying in my great grandparent's house, the passed away in Jan and my husband and I were here caring for them.
I can hear my grandpa's voice, "I think I messed up..." kinda makes me smile.
Thing is, I've been making popcorn this way for weeks without trouble! I figured plastic containers can go in there, same with adhesives. I've even heard of people stapling the bag. Now that's crazy!0 -

Makes me feel better that I'm not alone! And I am so thankful it was only my finger. Bad second degree burn, but it'll heal and my face didn't get it!!0 -
Dang that sucks.. When i was a kid i had the bright idea to melt a hershey kiss chocolate down in the microwave. Sounds like a solid plan huh ? Well , i didn't take the foil off of it for some reason and got a heck of a fireworks show lol. I don't know wtf i was thinkin at the time but at least i didn't burn down the house.0

Oh goodness. I'm glad you're okay. That could have ended a lot worse.0

Glad to hear the damage wasn't too extensive. I think I'll stick with the commercial popcorn bags. I haven't had a fire in my microwave yet, but, knock on wood, I'm absent-minded enough that it could happen.0

I remember being told not to put metal in the microwave when I was little. Then my sister and I were charged with putting bows on the Christmas tree. Had to test the theory, but we shut it off as soon as the sparks started and no fire! Till tonight, I had never accidentally lit anything on fire.0

I think I will, too. Unless I get a popcorn machine. ; )0 -
I'm almost certain people at my work set the microwaves on fire almost every day trying to make popcorn. So don't feel alone. But hopefully tomorrow is a better day for you.0
