Old Wife's tale

So I shaved my hair off about 8 months ago and decided to donate my hair to Lock of Love. When it reaches 10 inches then i will be long it enough to be made into a wig for someone who is need of it. I use to get my hair cut every two weeks, clean shaven and hair nicely groomed, is how i kept up my appearance.

So my question is, from what i heard is that if i get a little trim it would grow faster. Is this true?

Thanks

Not true. What happens at one end has on effect on the other end.

I'm pretty sure you're going to be bald forever now.

It doesn't make it grow faster, per se but it does improve the appearance and eliminate split ends. Split ends are what makes long hair look all scraggly and generally not as healthy, so stylist recommend a trim every 6-8 weeks (I get a trim every 8 weeks). Scalp massage and high protein diet, along with keratin treatments generally improve the hair growth rate, but not by a ton.

It won't grow faster, but it might look healthier.

Mine grows faster when I am taking a multi-vitamin and omega-3 regularly. I'd tell you to take a prenatal for the folic acid, but I'm not sure you'd want to.

Not true, I have a friend who has never cut her hair & her hair is extremely long. If not cutting it caused it to slow or stop growing, I doubt her hair would be that long.
I haven't cut my hair in almost 2 years & it's grown almost 2ft longer than it was.

-- It's against my friends religion to cut her hair, as with the rest of her family. Her hair is in beautiful condition, very healthy.

Sort of true... it doesn't actually come out of your head faster, but it will get longer faster. Trimming will reduce the breakage from split ends.

Simply trimming won't... unless you trim it on the day of the night of the full moon. LOL

It does NOT make is grow faster. Unfortunately... However split ends cause breakage and can make it seem like it is growing slower because it breaks which is basically a bad way of cutting it so a trim is good every now and then.

I donated my hair to locks of love, I'm native american so i always had long dark hair. In February of 10' I basically hacked it ALL off. I donated 31 inches of hair and had a cut of about 1 inch on my head. =) If i was gonna cut my hair i was gonna give ALL of it to children who need it more than I do. =)

I donated my 11 inch pony tail to Locks of Love and I highly recommend it to anyway that is planning on cutting their hair off! My hair grows very fast and I will do this every year. What a simple way to help people! :flowerforyou:

I think that if you are planning on donating it again, regular trimmings will make more of it useful to the charity in the end. If you trim it regularly, then the whole length will be useable. Whereas if you donate it without trimmings, they will just have to trim a lot of broken ends before using it.

If you were female I would say take prenatal vitamins as they help hair and nails grow faster and stronger but maybe just a good multivitamin if you don't already take one.

Males can actually take prenatal vitamins with Folic Acid too. They help with their sperm count, protect against certain cancers, helps alleviate depression, contributing to lowering cholesterol and the incidence of plaque in the arteries. I say go get a prenatal vitamin with folic acid. Walmart makes a good over-the-counter prenatal vitamin.

    Good for you!
I did the same thing! Strange to think someone has a wig of my hair!

Mine was down to my bum, I cut it shoulder length! Still growing it back now, but glad I could do something for someone.
    :flowerforyou:

But yes it is a old wives tale. Sadly as hair grows from the root cutting the ends has no effect on how fast it grows, but it will help stop split ends so I would give it the odd trim. I only do mine every 4 months or so, seems to keep it under control.

    xx
