technicaly they are different but people mix them so much they might as well be the same
yoga i think is much more calming its stretching the muscles
pilates works the muscles more than just stretching themthats about all i know0 -
They are both breath work type exercise. Pilates is more concerned with the core, Yoga works more the rest of the body. I don't know much about Pilates, but there are many types of yoga practice - some are a lot more vigorous than others. If you want to know more about yoga, send me a message. :happy:0

Pilates involve all these sets of workouts that emphasizes on the core but it works on other parts of your body too. Like a lot of other workouts, you do one set of exercises then move onto another, then another. You might start and end with a stretch and some of the exercises have stretches in them too.
Yoga is synergistic ... kinda like Tai Chi or a dance in slow motion because it flows from one pose to another. It's a full body workout that utilizes the core. It's deceivingly difficult, though some beginner workouts are created to be "gentle" to ease a beginner into learning proper form and improve flexibility. But make no mistake, that can and will kick your butt. It strengthens your muscles, then leans them out through stretching and breath.
Check out youtube and find samples of both workouts. I'm sure there are tons of free ones out there to give you a taste of each.0 -
I've done both off and on over the years - they are very different. I prefer Pilates. Looking at samples on youtube is very good advice. You also might try researching the basics of each, maybe wikipedia. there are TONS of books out there for beginners.
I might add - if you really want the full benefit of Yoga, (it is NOT just a fitness routine,) try and find a class with a really good trainer, or go one on one with a really good instructor.

I feel like it would be relaxing and challenging at the same time. My trainer has had me do a few of the stretches. I also have to do the PLANK often. I am going to talk to her to see if she herself does either one.0

Yeah, it's sort of a "calm within the storm" type of thing.0
