I find that the older I get, I seem to be having PMS. I never had this when I was younger.
In fact, if I didn't tell my husband he never knew when it was TOM for me.
Has any one else noticed a difference since getting older? I'm not liking this too much. I hate being emotional. I have never been this way before!! Not even when I was pregnant!

Ladies, do you remember your teenage years? Well, welcome to perimenopause. It is the hormone swings of those years in reverse. It strted for me at age 32 -- and is still going on (now age 48). Mine got so bad I am now on birthcontrol pills 24/7/365. But that is me. My TOM was never an easy time -- I fully understand why some women call it the "CURSE".:grumble: My Mom has said that now, she thinks I may have actually suffered from PMDS, not just PMS. Take extra care of yourself, stay active, keep the supplies handy at all times, get your sleep, continue to eat healthy. All of this helps. And if it is truly impacting your life or your ability to function -- talk to you GYN! You don't have to suffer, and you family shoudn't have to either.

I'm thru the menopause now, but yes, PMS did seem to get worse as I got older. My husband has an awful joke: what's the difference between a woman with PMS and a terrorist?

Answer: You can negotiate with a terrorist.

I know this isn't helpful, but at least you know you're not alone.

My poor husband. I have to find a way to apologize............without crying!! LOL
My self esteem just plummets and I am so emotional. I have never been like this before!!
    I hate it.
    What should I do?

Yes yes yes!! I talked to my dr. And she put me on a small dose of prozac. It has helped a lot with taking the edge off!

Don't want to do any more anti-depressants. I get migraines from those things.

I'll have to find another way.

Maybe just hide in my room for a week? lol

Mine has gotten pretty bad over the past few years, so I went on one of the birth control pills where you only get your period every three months. I figured that if I could at least reduce the frequency of the PMS, it would be a step in the right direction. So far, so good. I've been on them for over a year and a half now. My DH still knows when I've got my period, but at least he has a good two and a half month reprieve to get his strength back before the next round

Mine definitely got worse! Especially with a Husband and 4 kids pushing all the buttons! I've been on Effexor now for several years. I call them my happy pills and will not go off them till I'm done all this crap! Why do we women get the short end of the stick?

I suffer from PMDD and bi-polar disorder................along with PCOS and diabetes.....................

I am a walking hormonal and chemical imbalance, LOL..................

    Anyhoo..............

I found that when I eat natural, no processed foods, no wheat products, no chemicals, hormones, antibiotics in the meat, eggs and dairy, the symptoms of all of the above go away and disappear..........

So, right now, I am medication free!!!

I'm adding mine onto Leanlioness because I like her natural approach.

I was starting to have hot flashes/nightsweats. It went on for about 3 mon. The less sleep I got the more irritable I was becoming. Someone suggested giving up caffeine. I was a huge coffee lover and did not want to give it up but I tried it. Within a few weeks the hot flashes/nightsweat were almost gone. I was sleeping better and back to my normal self.
I also know that for me I am less irritable when I'm keeping my prayer life alive. I'm not telling anyone they have to have one. I'm just saying this makes a huge difference in my life. I try to remember that just because I'm crabby inside I don't have to take that out of my DH or anyone else.

Memaw, what did you end up doing - if anything - and are you noticing any improvement?

I'm a lucky one who never suffered any PMS-type symptoms, then had twins 20 months ago and since then whoa, am I getting nasty. I went off the pill several months before getting pregnant and didn't notice a change then, but since the pregnancy I sure have. Like some other ladies in this thread, hubby never knew what time of the month it was but he sure does now. I'm quite shocked at how short my fuse is during this time and it's truly horrifying.

I had hoped that I would adjust in the months following the pregancy but today my mood told me that I still have not, in a big loud way.

I had hoped to avoid taking anything for it, but it's not fair to the people in my life and certainly no fun for me. I was wondering if anyone had tried any of the 'lighter' options, like over the counter Midol type of solutions and if so, did they do any good or are they just to mild?

I should be in a great mood - great Thanksgiving dinner last night with family, gorgeous fall weather all weekend and ran my first 10k outside yesterday morning, a huge first for this non-runner. And yet I'm sitting here feeling like I'm ready to hop the next plane to a margaritaville. Alone. :embarassed:
    This sucks!
