Starting HIIT - recommendations?

I played around a little bit today with HIIT at the gym today on the track. Intervals of running and walking. I didn't have a watch on me so I ran 1 lap (11 laps are a mile), then walked a half lap hoping they were about the same length of time. I repeated this for 8 cycles. Does this seem sufficient for beginning this kind of training? Any input is appreciated! Thanks!

Doing a bit of research on it, I think that is a great start. Have you tried the treadmill? Might be easier to keep track of times. There are many downloadable apps if your phone works with apps on free HIIT workouts that you can okay your own music on.0
