Wow! It is my first day tracking all my calories, and I only have 498 calories left after lunch! That's a bit of an eye opener. It's a miracle I don't weigh 50 more pounds than I do! Of course, I never ate breakfast before, not skipping meals AND staying under budget is going to be the tricky part. Healthier choices need to be made, I guess. Off to the community to find diet and exercise buddies...

Yep logging is extremely eye-opening. You don't know until you know.

P.S. You don't have to eat breakfast if you don't really want to. The whole 'breakfast is the most important meal of the day' thing is kind of a myth. You can time your meals however it works for your personal preferences. :-)

I was the same way when I started tracking my food. I didn't change what I ate, just how much. Portion control seems to be the main issue we all have. (we eat too much) Eventually, I got used to eating less and wasn't hungry at all. Hang in there!!
  • I am surprised I never weighed 300lbs. Seriously, I can't believe what I used to eat. It boggles my mind.

That's good, it's not in the food database anyway and you'd have to guess at the calories. ;)

    Welcome aboard!

I'm with ya. I started on MFP 20 days ago... and i remember on the first day, saying to myself "Holy Moly... I'll bet on an average day, I probably take down about 3,000 calories, easy"... so yeah, no wonder I kept packing on the weight... At least now I make little bargains with myself... like I'll eat certain things that I know are kinda fatty - but then I'll work my butt off in a mega exercise session :)

Didn't use to do that before...

so yeah, no more sitting and eating half a pepperoni pizza with my husband....

  • So people actually read this, and respond, and are encouraging? This is fantastic! Now I can't wait to report some exercise this evening.

Yes, I desperately seek daily affirmations from faceless strangers. It is an illness.

Then you're definitely in the right place. That's why I'm here, too! That and the salad bar.

It really is a shocker, but don't jump to a diet. I have been on every diet there is and I lost weight on them all. The problem with diets is that when you come off the diet you gain the weight back. Use MFP to help you learn how to eat properly and work on portion control. I was eating 3K calories a day. Now, I need to work to get to 1900 and I am never hungry.

Haha, the same thing happened to me. :)

If it makes you feel any better, I used to be within 100-200 calories of my goal after lunch, and today, 4 months in to MFP, I have 1200 calories left after lunch. :)

Exercise calories FTW! That, and the fact that you can eat sooooo much more when you eat things that are good for you!

Yup. Laughed right out loud at this. Waste of good coffee, really, and rough on my screen. But thanks for the giggle!
