Really? No loss?

This is my 2nd week on MFP and I love it! The first week I lost 4 pounds, this week? No bueno. I went over on my calories one day (by about 500) and went to the gym 5 days out of 7 for at least 50 minutes. I do eat my exercise points and I'm seeing other results: more energy, not getting winded running up the stairs after my two boys, my pants are looser, etc. But I GAINED a pound. What gives? It is SO discouraging to work so hard and see a gain!

It might be water, or your cycle. I wouldn't worry if you started seeing a loss and have a minor setback. Keep at it!0

I didn't lose anything my second week either. There are some weeks that I do not lose and then the next week lose a few pounds. Hang in there. As long as you stick with it, you will see results! Good luck!0

Same for me. I've been doing this now for 10 weeks and I lose some, then gain some, then stay the same and the lose etc etc. Not sure what is happening, but my clothes are looser and people are now noticing.
Stick with it. the hard work will eventually pay off. good luck. x0 -
I don't lose very often either. Dropped 5 lbs the first week and haven't really lost since. I go up and down a few pounds, but have been pretty much hovering since. It's been about a month and a half, and i exercise 6 days a week. However, I was getting discouraged by the scale myself. So now I weigh and measure myself once a week. Everyone is different, and for me i'm losing inches every week, but not necessarily lbs. So keep up the good work and consider measuring, you did say your clothes are looser, so you are probably losing inches.0

I'm totally with you 4 lbs down the first week nothing the second week and I'm up 1 lbs on the 3 rd week. I'm sticking to my calories I don't usually eat my exercise calories back but somedays when were out all day and have to eat out I might use up 100 or 200 of my calories but I'm burning up 1000 to 1200 a day usually . I just started with measurements yesterday and I hope that works like it has for my sis who lost 10 lbs so far and went down a whole pant size.0

Expectation of losses every single week causes many people to quit. Relying on the scale can be a downfall. Rely more on how you look, how you feel and how your clothes fit.

You feel better, you have more energy, your clothes fit better. I would call this a success.
The scale isn't the only measure.0 -

Wait - you're burning 1,000 calories a day? From exercise? If you're burning 1,000 calories a day (above what your body would burn normally) and you're not eating back any of your exercise calories, that would explain why you're not really losing any weight. Let's say your allowance is 1200 cals/day. You burn 1000 cals with exercise. Suddenly, your body only has 200 calories to work with --- you're starving it, so it's clinging for dear life. Eat!0 -
I look at a scale once every few weeks. I'm looking for results, so smaller waist, more definition in my leg muscles... things like that. It's very easy to go insane if you're always hoping for results in weight only.0

it happens. if you keep up your good eating habits then over time you will lose the weight you want.0

Thank you all so much for the support. I know I should be looking at other successes but it's hard when I feel like I'm chained to the scale. I'll keep on keeping on and maybe I'll have a big loss next week.0
