Hi, I am relatively new to this - 3 weeks in and just want to check that I am on the right track!

Please can someone check my diary and give me some feedback on what im eating and my excercise?

Thanks in advance!

  • Wow, that's a tall order without knowing a bit about you.

    What is known:
    34yr old female

Flipping through the diary I see that the caloric goal is constantly changing. It is hard to hit a moving target. Do you know how many calories (approximately) you should be eating to maintain your current weight? If not, with some information about you, it can be calculated to an approximate number.

Does your current diet leave you full? If it doesn't, you won't continue for long.

How much exercise do you have? Is it "hit or miss" or very consistent?

There is a lot to this process. Don't get overwhelmed, it will come in time. Continue to ask for help.
  • Hi thanks for replying

I'm currently at 139 pounds and my goal is 126. I'm 5 feet 4 inches.

MFP has given me 1200 calories per day and on the day that I exercise I find it hard to eat the extra calories TBH.

I exercise 3 times per week at the gym, and swimming twice a week, each burning approx 500 calories.

My clothes are no looser and it's a bit disheartening :blushing:

I will keep going though if I start to see results, just getting a little impatient, im in my fourth week now!!
  • You're taking the right steps.

    You are exercising

You are watching what and how much you eat.

    You are exercising.

Those things are what will make you healthy.

But you will need patience. You weren't born 139 pounds were you? :) Give your new lifestyle some time. Four weeks is a very small portion of your life so far.

Don't worry about eating the required calories. Barring an eating disorder, eat until satisfied then stop. Just try not to go over the number. A more accurate calorie estimate would require a body fat test. See if your gym or your doctor will give you one. The ultrasound type of test is somewhat accurate.

Of course, the most accurate way to calculate the calories you need is to log all your food for 4 weeks, and keep an average schedule in life and at the gym. At the end of 4 weeks, if your weight stayed the same, that is the calorie count you need to maintain your current weight. To lose weight, take 10% to 20% of the calories off your intake. Then wait 4 weeks and test again.

Keeping track of all these measurements, numbers, and how much milk you put in your cereal is a pain. But you won't be doing it forever, and it will probably make you live longer.

There are quick fixes out there. But if you value your health (and your pocket book), you're doing the right thing.
