Hi I'm new to this site and new to losing weight never thought of doing it before, but I keep getting bigger and bigger I need to change. I am engaged to a wonderful woman and think I have just become to complacent towards watching the television and eating junk at night.

The only problem is that I can't seem to get my self motivated enough to eat the right foods or workout after work, what I want to know is what is your motivation.

  • Welcome. :)

This might sound kind of weird, but... my job is my main source of motivation. I work in sanitation and was recently rotated onto a trash collection route. It's physically demanding work, and as a woman doing a "non-traditional" job, I feel some pressure to prove I can keep up with my co-workers. (For the record, the guys have NEVER complained or suggested I'm less than capable; I guess it's my own prejudice.) As I've dropped some weight (slowly) and gotten physically stronger (faster), keeping up has been much easier.

I have other reasons for being here, such as difficulty in finding clothes that fit, and minor health problems caused/worsened by carrying too much weight... but my job is a motivator that stares me in the face for 40 hours a week. It's not something I can avoid or put off or go into denial about.

Do you have any potential motivators/reasons for changing yourself that are constantly present, that you can't NOT pay attention to?
  • Start today! Try logging your food today, it's amazing just to look at what you are eating. Last year, I was at my heaviest 234.5lbs, and I just didn't feel well anymore, I was having digestive problems, and I was lacking in energy. I decided to make some changes, so I dropped 20 pounds, and then gained 5 back by the end of the year. A couple of months ago, I found mfp, and got back on track. Check out my profile, I have filled out the areas of why I want to get into shape.
