Anyway around this?
You can try lower impact moves. I had troubles too, knee and back pain. I tried the lower impact, but it didn't work for me, so unfortunately, i had to give it up :-( BUT everyone's body is different and can handle different exercises and things. Listen to your body!0 -
Have you been to a doctor to see if there is a problem with you knees?0

I'm doing the 30 DS. For a while, my knee ached. I purchased a knee brace at Walmart..and feels 100% better.0

I bought some danskin dance sneakers for my zumba classes. They work so much better than regular sneakers for me. I also watch how I twist my legs/knees during some of the moves and modify if needed.0

Get medical advice, in my experience pushing thru pain has only meant longer periods of time without exercise!! My trainer has really helped me come back also!!0

Same happened with me - make sure you got dance shoes not trainers, trainers with grippy soles stick to the floor to much, and when you move side to side too much pressure on the knees0

This! It helped me too.0 -

I think you potentially just helped me. I have problem feet. I can't wear tennis shoes. They put too much pressure on the sides and top. Loafers with a finger width all around including the top is perfect but they are too clunky and awkward for dance classes. I tried a size too large toe shoes and ended up dancing on blisters for the rest of the class because I couldn't wear thin toe socks with it (just enough to cause the toe shoe to be slightly snug). I tried socks with grip slips on the bottom and because my feet twist while in the sock, the bottom of my foot was highly irritated. I tried binding the foot with gauze and tape before putting it inside the sock but the tape added pressure. I tried wearing plain socks but it was too slippery. So far I'm dancing barefoot and just like with the socks, it's not much support for the impact. I live in a foreign country so I can't just see a specialist or go to a specialist shoe store. I do have American products on base but they are limited. I hesitate to spend $100 or more to try something else when I know I can't wear tennis shoes but the slip on jazz shoes for only $25 or so might be worth a try. I hate that I can't try them on ahead of time and have to order but such is the life overseas.
Good suggestion.0 -
If you order danskin dance sneakers, be aware that the sizes will run small. I normally wear a 7 1/2 (US) and the shoes I tried on and bought are 8 1/2 (US). OOPS, it just occurred to me that I have Capezio dance sneakers, not Danskins. Sorry if I misled anyone.0

I didn't order sneakers of any kind, dance or otherwise. I know they won't work for my feet. I worry about what I did buy because there may not be enough support but it was worth a try. Here's what I got:
http://www.amazon.com/Womens-Neo-Flex-Jazz-Shoe-S0495L/dp/B004BFEZU6
There wasn't enough reviews on that one to determine size issue like with some of the other ones. The only person that referenced it said it was the same as her street size so I took a chance. I really hate having to shop for things like this online. At least it isn't a $100 purchase as with many sneakers!0
