Teen Girls with 50 or more lbs. to lose

I'm looking for stories of teen girls with 50 or more lbs. to lose to try and motivate my daughter to change her lifestyle. I'm hoping with these stories to motivate her to eat healthier and get more active. She is 15 years old and has 50 plus lbs. to lose and is quite depressed about it. If anyone would like to post I would so appreciate it.

Does she have a MFP account?

Just a friendly warning that if MFP staff found out your daughters age, they will delete her account. This website is for people 18 older because younger teens have different nutritional needs. Maybe try sparkteens.com? I commend her for taking a stand and wanting to get healthy and doing it the right way! Good luck!
  • No, she doesn't. I'm trying to encourage her to set one up. She is having a hard time getting motivated. She has really low self esteem. I thought if she seen other girls with a similar struggle it would encourage her.
  • I didn't realize the age limit. But thanks for the other website. I will try to get her to check it out. Thank you!!!

Hi sweetie I just turned 20 years old so not quite a teen anymore, and I have not quite lost all the weight I would like to yet, but am getting there. I have lost 35lbs so far, going from 213 to 178 so still got a bit of a long process to go but would like to help if I can :)

Hoping to get to 133 but focusing more on measurements than the scale :)

    Hope this helps!
  • You are definitely a help. I am trying to tell my daughter that changing her eating habits and exercise would help with her depression. We all get so down on ourselves when we have weight to lose especially when you are young and everyone seems to be looking better and happier than you. If you don't mind me asking how long have you had weight to lose?

Maybe just prepare her foods in a healthy way and encourage her to "help keep mom motivated." You can go on walks together. She's so young she really should focus on getting active and eating healthy =] rather than calorie counting which can encourage eating disorders.
    Good luck<3
  • Thank you to everyone for their support. What a wonderful bunch of human beings!!!! I feel so much better just sharing with you.
  • I became a veggie (no meat-just dairy and eggs) at 12 yrs old and in 4 months I went from a size 12 to an 8. My family wouldn't eat anything different, so I just ate more of the healthy sides my mom served. Just beware of breads, pasta and based meals rice meals. I ate those in college and after, which got me back the size 12 and at 25 yrs old I joined a gym to balance it back out to my healthy size 8. Hope this helps!

Hi im 19, I turn 20 in thirteen days, im still a teen lol. Well heres a little story about me that has had a big IMPACT on my self confidence. I hope this helps your daughter.

When I was 8, I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism ( thyroid disease). It slows down my metabolism, and causes weight gain. I was told I would have to drink a pill everyday for the rest of my life. I didn't know how serious this was. So I didn't t. Butake it. By the age of 14, I was 193Ibs. My doctor told me if I reached 200, I would develop diabetes. It was scary! I cried myself to sleep that day. I went through so many embarrassing times in high school, boys didn't like me cause I was too fat! (Thats not was important but at the time I thought it was, remember I was a teenager) The boys liked my friends. So finally at around the age of 16, 17. I wanted to lose weight, but not for boys. But to join the Marine Corps. I got down to 170. In my senior year I met a boy, fell in love, I got pregnant, stopped going to school. By november 2010, I had my son, I reached 229ibs. I married the father of my son in April 2011. I also finished high school. I got my license. We have our own home and car. Anyway I am currently 220, I have 80 pounds to lose so I may be at my normal weight for my height which is 5'4. My advice is not to lose weight for just beauty, bout do it for your health, which is soo important. You might not realize it now but it is. Youre very lucky to have your mothers support. I lost my mom when I was 4, and my dads sick. The only support I have is my husbands and this site. Kids can be heartless and cruel to others that are overweight, be strong because I know you can lose it. Personally I went through alot of humiliation, so many times I cried myself to sleep. Im now a mother, and what happened in high school is in my past. Im happier, and to me weight is just a number that I want to resolve for MYSELF! Other than that finish high school, and dont have kids as young as me. I love my son, but kids can wait.

    God Bless!

Such a fine line to tread... you don't want to make her MORE self conscious and depressed, but take it from someone who now WISHES I'd done this before college, she needs to do this now. And while it's just 50, not 150. Does she like to dance? Do you have access to a gym with classes like Zumba or Sh'bam? Sh'bam seems like it'd be right up a teenager's alley.

I have had weight to lose since I was 14. But coming from being anorexic up to the age of 12 and then trying to eat "normally" I piled the weight on without even eating junk.
It really does help with depression, especially exercise!
