Is there anyone here who is over 40 and just trying to maintain their current weight??
Im a 45 yr old female and even though i keep active, eat healthfully, and stay at a healthy weight, it seems as though im starting to get a little more softer in the middle as the years progress I just added Jillian Michaels 30 day shred to my fitness regimine so hopefully that will help some.

Hi! I'm 48 and was on maintenance after losing 20 lbs., but still have some soft areas, lol. I've started lifting heavy (at least for me) 3 days a week at surplus and then doing C25K 3 days at deficit. This is supposed to help maintain the muscle and reduce the remaining fat I would like to get rid of.
  • What size weights do you use and what is C25K?

I am 46 and have at least 5 lbs I would like to lose and at least maintain at that point, if not lose just 5 more. I very much understand how much harder it is after 40. So not right huh!

Hi, I'm 46 and it is definitely harder to maintain now. I also lift weighs in addition to cardio. As you get older, it's important to maintain muscle mass. I also do exercises that incorporate balance (ex: bicep curls using 20lbs in each hand, while standing on one leg). Many older people fall because of their lack of balance. You lose it if you don't use it holds true for balance and muscles.

Belly fat is from carbs. Women genetically store fat on the hips, buttocks, thighs and breasts.

Removing grains, legumes, most dairy - especially skim milk - that's some bad stuff - and high-sugar fruit, flour, PUFA commercial cooking oils and sugar (this has been a battle) got rid of my belly and the layer of fat I still had all over. I had done two months of P90X and it didn't get rid of my belly. Dropping all the carbs did. Actually removing the grains got rid of all my digestive issues, too. Carbs also make the body retain water (by retaining sodium).

I'm 41 and my goal was to drop 10lbs (main reason was to eat better. Found out a high-carb diet wasn't doing it for my body.

I dropped 20lbs and hit a weight I haven't seen since before puberty (I was 136lbs at 14 years old). Heck I've never seen below 120lbs in my adulthood.

I got a little lazy over the winter. Haven't been doing much exercise but am having no problem maintaining 109.6 (wow! I still can't get over that number!). The only thing that affects the scale is carbs. I eat more fat than anything but only get it through meat, coconut oil, butter, olive and avocado oil. Coconut milk (the canned kind - switching over to boxed to get rid of PBAs), heavy whipping cream and Fage full-fat greek yogurt. Oh and the nut butters(no peanut butter - it's a legume and is one of the highest pesticided crops) and Lindt 85% dark chocolate. Wow - I do eat a lot of fat.

    No problem maintaining.

to hpsnickers1 - You definitely got my attention. I was going to view your food diary so I could see an example of the foods you eat. Is it possible for you to send an example of a day of the foods you eat? I do realize that my food is my stomach fat issue, but I have a hard time trying to figure out what to eat and stick to it. Would appreciate any meal suggestions

I agree with the carbs statement...everytime I start eating more bread/cereal/ etc I start to feel bloated and squishy.
  • I love carbs but try to eat them in moderation and only look for whole grain based ones.
Skim milk i use in my tea (which i drink a lot of). I do like coconut milk though. Is
The canned better for you than the refrigerated kinds in the carton??

My tough part is the mid section - lost my tiny waist when I hit menopause. But have it under control, somewhat - requires exercise.
  • Im also an insulin dependent diabetic and am afraid if i dont eat some kind of carb my blood sugar will drop.
Im good about not eating sugar though.

Nothing wrong with carbs - I love 'em! Don't be afraid!

I'm 43 and maintaining. I started lifting heavy a short while ago in an effort to get stronger (and firmer/harder) while maintaining. To me, the key is staying in my calories, which are set at a little over 1800 a day right now.

Hi. I'll be 45 next month. I've lost 112 pounds in a year. I'm probably near maintaining but would like to drop another 10. I exercise hard, lift heavy weight and I am getting more toned as time goes by. I eat a fair amount of calories and I eat plenty of healthy carbs.
