Excess skin

Hi all,
I'm watching a documentary on TLC called "The Real Skinny." The film follows people that have undergone weight loss surgery and are now dealing with excess skin issues. Is anyone else watching? So far it's depressing the hell out of me (I have a lot to lose and will likely have the loose skin problem), but I am very intrigued and can't turn away.

You look very young... you will probably lose weight at a slow enough rate that your body will be able to keep up with it. Since you're young, your skin retains a lot of its elasticity. Don't worry about it right now love, just worry about getting healthy!0

I think about the loose skin issue a lot. I am trying to lose a total of 95 lbs, and I know I'll have loose skin in my abdominal area. I'm hoping I can afford a tummy tuck.0

Loose skin would be a good problem to have since it indicate s a great amount of weight loss. I suggest to forget about it now and deal with it when and IF you have to face the problem. You may not even have to, as excess skin is greatly based on genetics (how elastic your skin is) and age (yet again, elasticity.) Surgery at times can be partially covered by insurance, if, for example, one underwent bariatric surgery and loose skin is a result of that surgery. If not covered, the problem is not just about financing but also finding a doctor that specialises in people who experienced massive weight loss (60 lbs +) The regular tummy tucks and other typical plastic surgery techniques don't work well on ex-obese candidate, because the whole body needs to be adjusted or "contoured", not just a quick fix in one area. Hmph! I watched it yesterday with my daughter...so glad I didnt opt for surgery..which is usually the main reason for that amount of excess skin!! My daughter said "ok mom I will eat veggies all the time so that I dont get fat"!! I didnt get depressed it made me feel good that I have chosen to do it the "slow" way which is through eating healthier and exercise!!0

I know a guy that had the lap band and lost over 100 pounds and has no loose skin. I also know a woman that had 2the kids and lost about 80 pounds pregnancy weight the second time and hardly gained the first pregnancy and even after the first child she had loose skin. It really is genetics, age, how you lose it and maybe how long the weight was settled in. Good luck! Crossed fingers that your skin stays tight!0
