Keep hesitating to join a gym...

This is a stupid scenerio, and I probably just need someone to kick my butt.
I want to join the gym and have done so twice. 1st time, yearssss ago, I hated it and lasted 3 days. 2nd time, few months ago, I LOVED it and was super motivated by the atmosphere and people. But I was able to go for free which was great. (months long guest pass) I don't have that pass anymore so I stopped exercising (lack of motivation) cold turkey.
Now every time I think about paying and joining.... I de-motivate myself by thinking "I'm not even walking around my neighborhood anymore so why waste money."
I'm not sure this is even a question...just venting my own dumbness.

No, it sounds like you're honestly assessing your strengths and weaknesses.
Can you buy a short term pass? Does the gym offer any kind of structured classes? Do you have someone who could be your exercise buddy?
Sometimes it's just a matter of getting started. I've had days where I'd rather relax and not go for my run and have t kick my own butt out the door - I've never regretted getting off my rear end and getting moving.0 -

I think you need to turn this thought around and say, "Hey, I'm paying $$ for this gym membership, I better get my *kitten* there XX times a month for it to be worth it!"
Also, if it is about money, both Planet Fitness and Work Out World are pretty cheap - less than $20 a month. I'm sure there are other local ones that will be similar for you.0 -
You know you don't NEED a gym to exercise and keep fit. There are plenty of things you can do instead, loads of youtube channels with workouts on, bodyrock.tv, get a bike or run out and about in the fresh air, look for classes at the local community centre etc. Find what works for you. If the gym is too expense right now improvise0

As much as I'd love to join a gym again I know I just can't get there enough to make it worth it! I have slowly set up a home gym and have a library of DVDs and a treadmill, select tech weights and that is it. I bought things one at a time and it is so much easier than the gym. I recently got a 2 week pass to a gym and I went 1 time so I knew it was not a good idea to join!0

I did the same thing this year.I got the month pass and went three times a week like clockwork...then the membership expired and I didn't exercise for 2 weeks. Then I came across a article about working out with no gym(wich I couldn't afford on my own).I ate ramen for a few weeks and baught a elliptical, then I started walking at least 4 miles a day with my daughter, and doing burpees, lunges and park benches and so on.My mom who could tell I was serious about losing weight, and pays for my club membership. I use it for the pool and classes but to be honest I love being outdoors ,so it just depends what envirement you thrive best in.A plus is that if you fork up the money for a membership, you'll probly be inclined not to waste the money..those can be pricey!:)0

Yeah I'm trying to be brutally honest with myself on what I will and won't do. I don't think the gym I want does short term passes, but I'm going to find out, thanks! My niece is going to be my exercise buddy, but she can only workout on Sundays and I need to do more days.0 -
Thank you all for the support and great feedback!!! Much appreciated!!0

Hi Nikki, you have gotten plenty of good advise. Here is my 2 cents. I belonged to a gym for 20 years and I was over weight the majority of those years, simply because I wouldn't go. It took the gym to close down in order for me to get in shape. How? At home. I have lost 40lbs in the last 7 months from home. I used 10 minute trainer and my elliptical machine in my basement. I've had so many people ask me what I did to lose the weight I became a Beachbody Coach. So it's all up to you now. Exercise in the comfort of your home or go out and pay someone.0
