Protein drinks in UK - where to get?

Options
Hello all,

I've been to the big supermarkets (Asda, Tesco) and have had no luck finding protein drinks and/or meal replacement shakes with protein (or at all...)

UKers - have you found any premade shakes? Where? What are the nutritional stats?

Thanks!

Tesco do Maximuscle Promax Diet which I've been taking for a week and combined with strength and cardio exercises seems to have speeded up my weightloss and is making me look a bit leaner. I am taking it for breakfast and every other day replacing lunch with it too simply because I want to shift a bit more fat before my holiday. It's very expensive so I can't see me taking it long term.

Holland & Barrett have a ton of stuff. If you are looking for premade protein shakes, I'm not sure that they do them. Some of the protein powders say you have to consume within 20 minutes of it being made.

Holland & Barrett have plenty of protein powders. Could also try MyProtein.com. I was planning on buying something from there once I have used up my protein powder.

The best place to get Protein shakes are MyProtein.com and get the True whey kind. I got this in chocolate milk and add water with it and its lovely :) Its only 98kcals and i have it for breakfast every morning and keeps me going. I used to use maximuscle promax diet but i found the calorie count was too high for me in the morning. They are the same price but the True whey has less carbs and more proetin.
    Hope this helps

Maximuscle is expensive for what you get, there are a lot better brands out there for which you would get more for your money and the profile isn't too good but they are promoted very well indeed.

Holland and Barrett are quite high in their carbohydrate content, a lot of sugar if I remember correctly.

Reflex Nutrition's instant whey has one of the best profile for whey protein and you can get a reasonable price if you shop around.

    I agree with www.myprotein.com

They're excellent and good value for money. I use their Impact Blend Delux, Velvet Vanilla flavour. It's really great tasting!

After trying many kinds, I have settled on the My Protein True Whey in velvet vanilla. You can get samples of different protein powders on the website for about a pound I think.

If you're looking for a protein shake that's already made up and ready to drink I like Maximuscle Maximilk strawberry flavour (although the chocolate is quite nice too). I get mine from amazon and it is so much cheaper than anywhere else. I was getting it from The Supplement Store which worked out if I remember rightly £14.99 for 8 bottles but from Amazon I do a regular delivery and for 2 x 8 bottles for £16.00 including delivery. I usually have one of these after a workout in the morning - the calories are fairly high at 191 but you get 30g of protein.

Thanks everyone! I was looking for something pre-made that I can just throw in my bag (not always great at getting to making shakes before leaving the house).

I'll definitely have to check Maximuscle out. Maybe the other protein for when I have enough time to make shakes!

I'd quite like to follow on from this topic, I've been using USN IGF - 1 Pure Protein, which is quite expensive and I only like the chocolate so looking for change. I'd like something different this time, but sticking or bettering the low carb high protein.

    What would people recommend ?????

I know, its kind of wierd but p;rotein drinks are hard to come by here. I buy mine at the gym (Bannantynes) but you can get quite a few sorts at Holland and Barrett. and there is a good website discount supplements, buying them on line is an option Amazon probably stocks them.

I get mine from www.affordablesupplements.co.uk and have always had very good service. I like the instant Whey from Reflex but i have found Maximuscle to taste the best, but it is more expensive.

I also find that Maximuscle seems to work better for recovery, etc after a workout (but everyone is different) so i switch between the two brands to help keep the cost down.

As for pre-made shakes, maxi-milk is good but i often find the size is too small so i also like Met-rx RTD55 as it has 55g protein in a bottle and tastes good.

    :)

Not pre-mixed but I have been using Dolphin Fitness and have had 2 containers of Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey. The Double choc is yummy! Trying something different this time, Bodytronics or something.... not as good protein % per cal, as the ON stuff but I got a deal on it. Not tried it yet...
