When you set your goals up on MFP it lists out for you to select if you are sedentary, lightly active, moderately ect. then it asks you how many days a week you plan to work out ect. Anyways i've seen many people say that they realized that even though they are not moving around most of the day that they are active opossed to sedentary due to how much they exercise a week. I have a desk job so i'm sitting on my butt most of the day however i go to the gym and workout atleast 30 mins five days a week. Usually more than 30 mins but an estimate of atleast 30 mins five days a week. I've selected that i am sedentary due to my job not being physical. Should i switch it up or should i stay at sedentary?? little confused by it due to it asking what you do the majority of your day and how much you plan to exercise when you set it up. Anyways... any help would be nice, thank you :)

  • Personally I think that when it asks youhow active you are I think it is asking on a regular basis. If you sit at your desk all day then you chose properly with the sedentary. If you were running a day care or working standing up then I think that would be considered mild active etc. I think you chose properly.

If you have a desk job, you should select sedentary. Then when you log your exercise it will give you back those calories burned. If you set it as anything more active, MFP will calculate more of a deficit into your daily allowance then it does now.

If you have a desk job, just set it to sedentary then add your exercise calories manually.

I set it as sedentary, I work on a computer all day. Then I add my exercise after. I would rather underestimate than overestimate .

I was a litle iffy on this question as well. I'm ridiculously active when I'm NOT at work, but I spend 1 hour in my car to and from the job and 9 hours at a desk (as to which I overdoes on water so i at least have the excuse to get up to go to the bathroom as often as possible!) I made my daily thing sedentary but always log in EVERTYHING when I exercise. When I made it sedantary they gave me 1200 cals/day to lose1.5lb/week. Because my workouts are so intense I upped it to 1600/day w/ 40% carb, 40% protein, 30% fat. (I don't eat any starchy carbs which helps). My CF coach told me that a good rule of thumb would be to take your weight, multiply by 10. That is the amount of cals you should intake to maintain. If you're working out then you add calories that you can eat (or choose not to!)

    I agree, I underestimate everything. It's safer.
