You CAN do this. Just keep it up for a month, and then it will be easier. Log all of your food, even if you don't eat well, because if you have to put it in it may make you think twice. If you have a bad day or so, don't give up or beat yourself up, just start fresh the next day. I thought it was impossible for me to ever lose weight again, and look how far I've come since January! I do it one day at a time with the help of people on this site.
Remember, it's not about dieting, it's about starting a healthy lifestyle, and there is no time like the present! Hang in there, and let me know if you need help.
Here's to smart choices!!0 -
I see this is ur first post on the message boards. I find it much easier when I post regularly on the boards... it keeps me accountable in some silly way and then you can also see sooo many success stories that make it worthwhile. Take it one step at a time and you will notice the changes too0

Hey!! I have never posted on this site before but I read your blog and I have needed some of the same encouragement. The most important thing to remember is the best way to loose weight is to work off more calories than you took in for the day. If you love to dance, let that be your way of getting rid of those calories. Dieting makes everyone relapse so don't diet. Just eat more responsibly. Use your calorie counter and set a reasonable limit for yourself. It all starts with baby steps. YOU CAN DO IT! Dont beat your self up over your cravings just try better alternatives. I hope this helps. I wish you the best in your steps towards a healthy life!

Hi, I have a teenager and I know how hard it can be at that age. I have been trying to help her lose weight with this site the entire summer and finally about two weeks ago we found something that really works. By all means, TRY to eat a bit healthier, BUT you are a teenager and that's hard. So my advice to you, and what my daughter has been doing for about two weeks now, is to eat normally (like you want to) for about three days and log all of your calories on this site. That way you can see how many calories it takes for you to be happy with and stick to. Then figure out how much exercise or activity you need to do to be able to eat most of those calories back. Here is an example of her day.
She is happy with about 1600 calories, BUT to lose weight she should only eat 1200. So every single day she has to do some type of exercise or activity that burns 400 calories. That way she gets to eat the whole 1600 calories that makes her happy and also lose weight at the same time.
Believe me, this really works for her. She just COULD NOT stick to 1200 calories a day. So now I've got her doing some strength training with weights, some elliptical time, some brisk walking, some DDR on the playstation, and all sorts of other things. She has actually lost about 3 pounds in the last two weeks which is way more than she lost trying to stick to the 1200 calories a day diet. All she has to do is log on her activity for the day and she gets to eat more. Give it a try. Good luck, I hope it works out for you.0 -
I am new to this too and I am not a teenager...but I am a mom and my heart goes out to you. You must be a smart girl to be on the honor roll and you probably have plans to go to college and get a great job. You will have to work very hard at achieving the things you want in your life There will be obstacles and set backs...but that is just how life goes, no matter what your size. Take the time to educate yourself about healthy eating. There is so much good information out there. Living a healthy lifestyle is like having a great career. It is a lot of work, but the satisfaction is beyond measure. This site is a great place to calculate your calories in vs. the calories you burn. Become an A honor roll student of your health. I'm rooting for you!0

Hello! Welcome to MFP!
You have taken the first step and that is starting to get back on track. I remember what it was like being a teenager, I used to battle my weight too. I did manage to lose and keep it off for awhile but then my mom died and the emotional eating started all over again. My weight has crept up on me the past 6 to 8 years and two months ago I was back at 221!. Ugh!
I know you are feeling discouraged right now but try not to focus on the bad things, like your clothes and being "fat". When we keep beating ourselves up it erodes our confidence. You sound like a great young person and you have so many things going for you. Concentrate on all your positive qualities.
Also, remember to take things one day at a time. The weight didn't pile on in two months so it won't come off in two months. Just try to stay focused and work toward eating 1200 calories a day. Make sure to write everything down so you can see your progress. I know when I was young, I was so impatient to lose weight. If I didn't see a lot of progress in the first few weeks I would give up.
It's true what they say about "it takes 3 weeks to make or break a habit". If you can make it through the first month, you will begin to feel better and break some of the bad eating habits you may have. But remember, it's okay to treat yourself once in awhile so you don't feel deprived and binge eat. ( That happens to me at times)
YOU CAN DO IT!! Good Luck! When you need encouragement, drop me a line. :-)

I know its hard and I have been down that road when I was in highschool by the time I was 18 alomst 19 I weight 226 lbs. Yes is was hard. How I start that might help you is keep track of all your food right now, see how much you are eating and what you are eatting. After about a week take a look at it and see where you can put in healtheir items. My problems are SWEETS (breaks, snack cakes, cookies, candy, pop) before I started here I was 200 lbs and quickly gaining weight becuase of this. I then added good sweets. I eat fruit when I want that sugar. Then after you have established a decent eatting habbit start walking for like 30 mins a day. Slowly increase ou activity and decrease your bad food habbits and you will see the results in no time! Stay motivated. Remeber you want to be thinner by your birthday. Just picture yourself. (thats what I do)0
