Hypothyroidism...anyone?

I've been wondering about this question for a while now.....to what extent does hypothyroidism affect a woman's calorie intake? I've always heard people with hypothyroid have slower metabolisms, so they don't need as many calories. For example, i weigh 148 and am 5'5''. MFP says I have to eat around 1,750 to maintain. With my hypothyroid, should I only eat 1,500 to maintain? 1,600? HELP!
Thank you in advance

I'm not a doctor nor do I play one on the Internet, have you actually been diagnosed? If yes you should probably be talking to your endocrinologist about this.0

Yes. I have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism. Why else would I be saying I had it? (Do people really claim to have real disorders/diseases without being diagnosed by a doctor?)
Anyways, I don't currently go to an endocrinologist. Just a plain family practitioner. She's not much help...that's why I came here..0 -
I do have this as well, been on synthroid for years...I don't adjust my calories at all. And yes people self diagnoise all the time : )0

Ah..that's odd. 'Self-diagnosing'
I'm on synthroid as well :X My doctor said I'd probably be on it for the rest of my life..0 -

I have had hypothyroid for 35 years. I would suggest that you maintain a TSH level between 0.4-2.0 for optimum metabolic health. If your family practitioner can't help you determine the best dose of Synthroid for you, you should consider seeing an endocrinologist. If your thyroid hormone is at the correct level, you should be able to eat "normally" ~ as per the recommendations on this site.0

I'm sorry. Can you clarify what TSH is? I don't know anything..0

LOL, OMG yes people self diagnose all the time. Just last week there was a woman on here freaking because she had eczema and then when she went to the dr, found out it was an allergic reaction to something.
All I know is that after I started on my synthriod, I lost a few lbs because my metabolism got a boost.0 -
