PLEASE READ AND LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK. I NEED TO TRY SOMETHING DIFFERENT BUT NOT SURE THIS WILL WORK!

Im sure alot of you are familiar with Jillian Michaels book Winning by Losing. Since I kinda stopped losing weight by the calories that they tell me to eat on here, I thought Id read her book and give that a shot. Well if I figure up my AMR for a whole week it is 16947. If I want to lose 2 lbs in a week I have to subtract 7000 from that number which makes it 9947. (3500 calories equals 1 lb so there for 7000 is 2 lbs) So she has you mix up your calorie intake on different days so that your body isn't used to getting just a certain amount of calories each day. So monday-1300, tuesday-1500, wednesday-1250, thursday-1400, friday-1200, saturday-1700, sunday-1400. So she is saying that if I eat 9947 calories in a week that I will lose 2 lbs. I am a balanced oxidizer according to the book so It has a list of food that I should eat and I should be on a 40% CARB, 30% PROTEIN, AND 30% FAT diet. Does this sound like it would work to you guys? I have been struggling to lose weight for the last month. I have been staying in my calorie range, and exercising everyday but no pounds is coming off. So if im only eating between 1210-1500 everyday (if I eat my exercise calories) Then how am I to expect to lose weight eating more calories than I am used to eating already? PLEASE I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO KNOW WHAT YOU GUYS THINK.

i think u need to stick with one plan and totally tweak it to work for you....i wouldnt jump into jillians just yet because your diary and food needs tweaking...u need more veggies in your diet and less of that eating out restaurant food...plus some days you werent or didnt seem totally accountable or way under....tweak the diet you already have before switching it up...good luck i think you are off to a great start you gotta just go that extra step for results

There is a forum that I read today called "TDEE is everything" . I found it interesting and might be of some value for you.

I've heard of the concept before of intentionally eating above your goal and well below and some days right on track so it more mimicks general life and won't let your body get so used to one level- haven't read the book to know about her concepts of oxidizing etc, but the basics of the math hold true, as long as you are under the 3500 a week you will loose the pound, doesn't matter where in the week it comes.
Can't hurt to try something new for a little while at least ??

Well if your interested, the way you figure out your AMR is to 1st figure up your BMR which for a male would be 66 x (6.3 x body weight in lbs) + (12.9 x height in inches) - (6.8 x age in years)=BMR

then 2nd you will pick your daily activity level
    a) sedentary (desk job where you sit most of the day) score is 1.1
b)light physical (on your feet and walking around for half the day or more. such as a stay at home mom, sales people or doctor) score is 1.2
c)moderate physical activity level (on the move all day, with a few limited periods of being sedentary. (mailman, carpenters, ext) score is 1.3
    d) high physical activity (constantly on the moved with significant amounts of manual labor. such as construction workers, farm workers, movers and such) score is 1.4

then 3rd you would have to figure up your exercise expenditue, which I cant figure up without your weight.

then you simply take your BMR and multiply it by your daily activity score, then add your exercise expenditure. That will be your AMR daily. To figure up weekly just multiply that number by 7. then subtract 3500 if you want to lose a lb a week, or 7000 if you want to lose 2 lbs a week. Then that number you will divide out in the seven days that are in the week however you want to. There is more to it, like finding out what foods you should eat according to your bodies metabolism, but you would have to get the book for all that lol. It sounds like a very good way to lose weight, and I know Jillian knows her stuff, but Im a bit weary of it just because Im having it tough losing a pound eating less than that everyday and exercising

Yeah I know I need more veggies but im not crazy about them. The only veggies I like are the ones that arnt good for you. I could force myself to eat them, but I never ate them in the past and lost over 50 lbs. I went from 235 to 180 in 8 months. Then I was in a car accident and they put me on a liquid diet. After I got off the liquid diet I couldn't get enough of food and put 15 lbs back on. Now im here and cant get the darn scale to budge. But like I said when I was on weight watchers I never ate veggies much at all either

Keep ths in mind....the calories MFP reads as burned may not be accurate.... example: MFP =518 for 40 min on the elliptical but my machine reads 201...big difference...... some machines have different resistance levels which will up your calories burned...etc.. if you eat back all of your exercise calories you might be eating too much... I try to find a balance or if feeling full dont eat the extras....I was stuck for awhile so this week am changing it up with weights and then cardio..... good luck...each person is different and we woman more so than the men...lol.... time of day to exercise may make a difference and types of food and even proper rest as well as thyroid may play a roll in weightloss or gain....

I lost the weight I have so far by going over the 2000 calorie point once a week. It wasn't intentional at first, there were just a lot of events that happened to be once a week. I talked to a few people who have lost a lot more than me and they do this as a matter of course. One does over 3000 every other week. They explained it to me that switching up on lower calories still keeps your body holding onto to a fat store because it's getting less than it needs but giving it more than it needs once a week and it confuses things and fat stores get released quicker.
Now I could be lucky and the weight moved fast because I had 50 lbs to lose but I have never lost weight that easily in 20+ years of dieting.
I fell off track for a little while there and have been just maintaining but now I'm back and I'll see how it works for the next 20lbs:)
Hope you find what works for you. Best of luck:)

I have underactive thyroid so it is tough for me to lose. But I lost 50 lbs in just 8 months. Now it just doesnt want to go anywhere

Tiff, I don't see any way around eating vegetables :( Ever tried incorporating them differently into your diet? I've found that making Indian style curries out of vegetables make them much more palatable to me...they are packed with flavor and all the nutritional goodness.

Also, are you measuring yourself? In the last 2 months, I've lost just over 1 lb but my pants have gotten so loose that a couple of co-workers noticed...just be sure that you are not gaining muscle and that is why your weighing scale won't budge. Also get your blood work done if it bothers you that much...just to be sure there aren't other factors including your hypothyroidism wrecking havoc on your efforts.

I was eating what MFP set most weeks. Some days i'd eat a little less (usually hectic work days where I didn't have time to notice if I was hungry) and I tried not to eat back the work out calories. Not eating back the workout calories is a lot easier when you know you can have what you want in a couple of days!! As you know you don't have to go crazy to eat the 2000-3000 calories in a day. Having a few drinks brings it up fast too but it worked for me. I'll let you know how it works for this next 20lbs.
I looked at your profile and you have been doing awesome!! You had lost over 50lb? That's fantastic!! Seems like you already know how to so this, what you may not have figured out is what's eating you! Keep a food diary of how you are feeling when you are eating and when you are eating poorly especially see what set you off. The stress eating is what got me:)
Having your blood work done as the reply below suggests is good also. Check your vitamin D level also, most of us are low there and it's harder to absorb when overweight.
Good luck on your quest for health:)

I began MFP 10 days ago, and so far have not lost any weight. I have been eating at, or just below, or just above my allowed calories. I have been exercising for 30 minutes 3x a week, not much, but I have a pinched nerve that is making me feel sorry for myself. Yesterday, I did a lot of stretching exercises, and I feel much better today, so I will continue that. My daughter said to drink more water, I have only been having 4 glasses per day. Anyway, I will keep at this, because I have a feeling that my body will someday let go of the weight it is clinging to. I am retired, and at my age, it is very hard to lose weight. So, I am not discouraged. I love that when I log food, MFP tells me how many calories I have left, and it calculates the bonus for exercise. I didn't gain this weight in a couple of weeks, so I will allow myself time to eliminate it. I will stay focused on my goal. BTW, I love how the computer tells me how much I will weigh in 5 weeks. That is encouraging!:smile:
  • Thanks....Its starting to actually move again. Im doing weight watchers again and watching carbs mainly on here....and my sodium because I bload alot...Im also doing Zumba which I love. ITs nice to find a exercise I actually enjoy

Yeah I love that as well. Yeah water is good...It flushes out all that salt in your body so keep trying to aim for more. I went back to Weight watchers because thats the only real diet that has ever worked for me in the past. Dropped 50 lbs with it. So far in just 4 days of being back on the program and doing zumba a few days a week I have mananged to lose 4.4 lbs. I also log my food on here to because Im mainly just watching carbs and sodium on here..Good luck to you on your jouney to being healthier
