Don't worry yourselves to death about getting enough protein

Hey all!

I know that it is very important for those on diets to eat lean in order to gain a significant amount of protein. Protein is vital for the energy and strength to power through tough workouts but remember that mean does not equal protein! There is a lot of misconception out there regarding this fact and it's mostly the fault of the meat industries. Being a vegetarian myself, I can tell you that eating fruits and veggies gives the body more than enough protein, in fact, the food pyramid has actually remade itself into a plate which is now comprised of half fruits and vegetables. Meat is now thought to be an alternative or "tasteful condiment". I do not want it to seem as if I'm pushing any kind of agenda here, my entire family and all but two of my friends are meat eaters, I just want to give a heads up for those who consider meat as the only protein out there! Here's a helpful link which outlines various veggies and their nutritional value!

    Avocado
Strictly speaking, an Avocado is a fruit - see the fruit chart
lol - I like this chart! Thanks for sharing.
  • Thanks for the info. I have been told recently that I am not getting enough protein so have seriously upped my meat and fish intake to the point where I have had about 150% of my daily intake of protein today. I have seriously started on weights recently so have been told to eat more meat and fish but will also think about other foods also.

    Thank you!!! bigsmile:

  • So true! I had to change my mindset when I started learning about this because protein is really emphasized in our culture but I really believe it to be true!
  • Thanks for the chart. As a veggie it's hard to find good protein foods, mainly because they're not so widely marketed or promoted as meat/ fish. I just went out today and bought a vegetarian suitable protein shake powder (measure up from asda), and loads of avocados, nuts, olive oil etc. Tofu and Quorn contain a lot of protein too :drinker:

I had no idea all of those vegetables had protein! and lucky for me, I like some of them...I'm not a vegetarian but I am an extremely picky eater so it's hard for me to get the nutrition I need out of the foods I eat. Seeing that broccoli, cauliflower, and corn provides so much nutritional value is comforting to know. Thanks for sharing this information!! :)
