that as soon as you commit to losing the weight that your all of a sudden hungry all the time?

I started a few days ago and I've been working hard on exercising a few times a day. I vowed I wouldn't "diet" because its never worked before and I've never really eaten terribly, I just overeat. So I'm work hard on my food diary, watching portion sizes, stopping when I'm full etc etc. Knowing that you can't just eat whatever/whenever anymore makes me hungry all the time. I'm sitting here counting down the minutes till I can get dinner started.

It's so annoying. When will this pass?

I try to give MY opinion about ME, whenever questions like this are asked. I"m only giving you what MY experience has been.

IN my opinion, I think that the moment we make a conscious decision to change, and challenge our own comfort zones, our minds tend to play games with us. In short, part of what you may be going through is psychological.

That said, I want to add here, that as you start to use more energy on a regular basis (through exercise), YES, your body can and does actually get just a little hungrier. You're expending more energy, so your body wakes up and says I"M HUNGRY, because, well, it is. If you just began this lifestyle, you (and therefore your body as well) have not fine tuned and adjusted it's caloric needs - so there could be some real-ness of your hunger.

This takes time - it won't happen over night. When I started adjusting portion sizes and being honest with myself and what my body really needed, I was hungry. Determination won out, however, and I trained my body to take only what it needs to be NOURISHED. You can eat a smaller amount of food, and if it's set in your mind that you are going to concentrate on the quality of your food, eventually your body (and your mind) adjust and learn to live with less. Ever see those plates of food in fancy restaurants that look like they wouldn't feed a gnat? That's because the foods chosen for that plate are more about the quality than the quantity!

If you have not already done so, consider splitting your eating schedule into smaller meals more frequently. I am never hungry, because food, for me, is always 2.5 hours away!!

Enough. Sorry for the ramble. HTH!! And btw --- :flowerforyou: welcome!

I know just how that feels. I know that most people on here recommend drinking water or chewing gum or eating snacks with high water content like grapes and oranges, or distracting yourself with physical activity. These are all really good tips. But I don't think that feeling ever goes away until you finish trying to lose and you are just maintaining. I still feel hungry all the time, and I have learned to embrace it. It sounds weird, but when my tummy grumbles and I don't give in right away, I feel that I am practicing self control and that I really am hungry, when before I just ate whenever I felt like it and I never knew what it really felt like to be truly hungry. Or try eating little snacks throughout the day instead of meals, and then you never have time to get really hungry. If you are eating low cal, nutritious food, you can eat all day, and still stay at your calorie goal. Hope this helps, and good luck!
