Well, I have reached my first goal of losing fifty pounds. That took me five months - ten pounds a month.

From what I have read on here, the smaller you are, the harder it is to lose those pounds so do NOT be discouraged if it seems like it is coming off slower than someone like me who has so much MORE to lose.

Also, I recommend that you measure yourself now and keep track because there will be weeks where the scale doesn't move, but you lose inches and honestly - I could care less if the scale says I'm 180lbs but I LOOK like i weigh 145, ya know?

    Good luck on your journey!

Don't put so much power on time and the scale. Make a goal of losing 1 lb a week and measure yourself a lot - do not be discouraged if you are not losing lbs but are losing inches. Who cares if you weigh 140 if you look like you weigh 120?

You want to do this the right way so a) you preserve your muscle and don't get skinny fat and b) so the weight won't come back on.

19 years old, 5-4, from 195 to 139.5 as of today. It's been almost a year and a half. I started off really slow, because I was so heavy i couldn't do much, otherwise it hurt my knees. stationary bike was my new best friend in the beginning. Now I do lots of classes like karate, yoga, and zumba, with jogging in between days. Staying out of the ACTUAL gym for a while to focus on my eating habits and finding new ways to workout and stay active without machines. Not where I'd like to be but I'm getting there. Don't rush yourself with the weight loss. It's a slow process and it gets even slower as your weight drops. I'm not sure if you can drop 30 pounds in 4 months in a healthy way, but im rooting for you!!! (Healthy and strong is the way to go!!!)

try this link. it will show you the proper places on your body to take your measurements so that you can be consistent.

taking your measurements is VERY important. if you only rely on your scale, you may get discouraged quite often. what the posters above have said is very true. if you are losing weight properly and exercising, you may not reach 130 pounds but you'll look like you've lost 30 pounds.

pay close attention to how your clothes are fitting also. my pants falling down was my first indication that I was making progress.
