You should be consuming .8 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight/10-30% of your calories should come from protein. If you aren't putting a lot of stress on your muscles, your body won't really need the extra protein and won't utilize it. As far as I know consuming more than you need won't really hurt you, but it would probably mean that you aren't consuming enough carbs/fats. Timing is also important... consuming a large amount of protein after some kind of strength workout will be more beneficial than consuming small amounts throughout the day.
  • it doesnt matter what you eat it's how much you eat. your body needs equal amounts of carbs, protein and fat. excess protein, like excess fat and carbs, will be stored as fat. people who are trying to put on weight will generally eat cleaner and stick to a high protein diet focusing on nutrition. you shouldnt be weighing yourself so obsessively because you could be retaining water. you should be focusing on how your clothes fit, measurements and maybe invest in a body fat calculating scale. you can't expect results straight away either, and you need to listen to your body. are you getting enough sleep? it may also be best to speak to a nutritionist who can tailor a diet for you based on either your blood or body type, i have a tendency to store excess fat around my hips, stomach and thighs as opposed to storing all my weight in the middle, so i did a bit of research and i need to wean myself off sugar, eat lower fat and protein, and stick to only good carbs such as rye bread as opposed to white bread, sweet potato as opposed to white potato, brown rice instead of white rice etc. i've noticed a difference in my body straightaway - i haven't lost 5kg in a week because that's not what i'm aiming for. i sleep better, my energy levels don't slump an hour after i've eaten and i've lost weight the proper way!
