Any recommendations or suggestions for equipment to use for lifting? With all the different makes, models, etc., I was hoping to get some feedback on what some of you have used. I'm looking for something to use at home whether it be dumb bells, or a multiple station machine. I'd like whatever it may be, to be able to hit nearly every muscle group.

Thanks in advance!

Go cheap - get the handle bars with screw on caps and buy some used weights on craigslist - I bought 400 lbs one time for 75 bucks... with a bunch of bars... and an Olympic bench that does decline and incline for 25 bucks..

Not a bad idea, and thanks gash for responding. Also looking for minimal switch time between exercises. Can't believe with the number of people on this site, there's only 1 offering. :(

I just bought a weight set at Sears last month for 400.00. It is a Weider home gym. Easy to switch the weights. It was a pain to put together but it works good.

All you really need is a power rack (as low as $400 used), bench (as low as $50 used), Olympic bar, and weights....the weights are the priciest thing, but you could get away with starting out with two of each plate, then as you get stronger buy what you need.

Now don't go too cheap, or the equipment will break....probably with you using it.

    Thanks for the input guys!
  • My favorite home gym equipment would be an incline bench ($75 or less), a Cap barbell tricep bar (adjustable), an adjustable kettlebell ($39.99?), curling bar, and adjustable dumbells. I also picked up a D-grip @ Sports Authority and clipped it to a chain (Home Depot)and another clip and added about 20 lbs of weight (send me a message if you want more details.) That way I can do various D-grip excercises. Nunchaku are also a lot of fun and can increase your speed and agility, but are illegal in most states ;( Often, I do incline pushups on the bench press to develop upper pectorals. You can also use the bench for dips, bench presses, dumbell presses, incline presses, reverse flies, etc. all. I hope I helped.
