Anyone ever tried a fruit fast for 3 days. I love fruit and just thought why not. I felt like it would be a nice cleansing 3 day fast. I usually do not believe in fasting and dieting but thought it might be cleansing:) Any thoughts????

I do fruit and veggie fasts once in awhile. It can be difficult to eat enough calories, but I think if you include enough bananas you should be fine. It is very cleansing. If it's your first time, try it on the weekend or sometime when you don't have much work to do.
I've never tried a juice fast and I've heard that they can be quite dangerous and uncomfortable. But it is really nice to go all green, whole foods for a little while.0 -
I've done an all-fruit diet for a few weeks. Yes, it can get old but you have to make sure you get enough calories. Items like bananas, figs and mangos should be limited though because of their high sugar content. They also have some fat and make the cleansing a little less effective. The best way to get enough calories is to eat melons, especially watermelon. There's nothing wrong with making smoothies out of apples and oranges to make sure you get enough calories. I often felt like I was eating more than I ever did!
A fruit fast is a great way to really cleanse and lose a lot of weight. The best thing it did for me was get me to incorporate a lot more fruits and veggies into my diet. I'm a person who doesn't need very many calories to maintain my weight and have a very hard time losing. I've had surgeries and other issues that make my metabolism very slow. After I was done with my fast, I would eat primarily fruit most of the day and have any kind of meal I wanted for lunch or dinner (my choice), and I was still able to maintain.
Since then, I've had a baby and it's hard getting on track... but this is what I will be doing. Right now, I'm just trying to gear myself up for it.0 -
You might want to add a proteing shake to that. Remember that if the body doesn't get enough protein it will get it from your lean mass and slow your metabolism down. Three days with no protein when you need at least 55grams daily will not help your metabolism...0

Perhaps Avocados? They are a fruit and have 3 grams of protein and 22 grams of fat. You need fat in your diet.0

This is an interesting idea and doing it for only 3 days I doubt will harm your body. But I have to ask, what is the point really? Why not just eat clean instead? Just avoid caffeine, alcohol and processed foods and drink lots of water. I don't really see the benefit of cutting out lean protein, dairy, whole grains and the healthy fats that your body needs. I dunno ... maybe I'm wrong but that's my take on it. If we put the right stuff in our body, it does a pretty good job of cleaning itself... or at least that is my personal experience :blushing:0
