i'm too self conscious to even work out in my room!

I feel like I'm under critical surveillance from nonexistent peers ugh lol. I want to work out soooo much but i can't without feeling like there are others watching me even inside the privacy of my own bedroom. I have DD's so i think that's a part of it. Anything that jiggles or bounces feels like something a loser would have - not those beautiful women all guys seem to fall head over heels for and have no body fat on them.

  • Time to get naked and start loving yourself. You are hot, now get naked in front of a mirror and tell yourself so.

I had the same problem..still working on it.. but forget them.. who are they to you? i know you go to school with them.. but how bad do you want it . if you want it bad enough, then working out in front of people shouldn't be an issue.. think about yourself before you think about them. . you should think that they watching you because you are doing a GREAT JOB by improving yourself and working out

There is a woman at my gym, probably 5'3" and 300 pounds. I have so much respect for her and want to tell her so ... but won't because I don't want to hurt her feelings about being so large and giggly. She's been going now for about 4 months. This too has impressed me so much! Honestly, i don't watch her so much as notice she's there. And I always visibly smile when I see her.

This, absolutely. Changing your body isn't going to change how you feel about it either, believe it or not. Change the inside and learn to love the outside.

Honestly I have lots more respect for the larger people that enter the gym that the ones who are fit. If someone wants to stare at your awesomeness, let them. You are doing this to make yourself healthier, not to impress a bunch of strangers. So workout, be awesome. And one more thing, real women have parts that jiggle :flowerforyou:
  • Okay maybe I should of added this - i was diagnosed with anorexia so self image isn't exactly my strong point.

I felt that way too. I got a treadmill for myself at home and though everyone was watching. I slowly just started walking then running. It feels awkward at first, but it gets easier and eventually you will be fine. :)

It can be very hard to learn to love our bodies the way that they are. I feel your pain.

Sometimes, when I am exercising at home, I dress silly so I look funny ON PURPOSE. I'll wear turquoise running shorts with bright red knee socks, for instance. Somehow, it makes me have more fun when I'm exercising! I'll even put on a terry cloth sweat band around my forehead for added awesomeness!

edited to add: sometimes I get nervous that my xbox kinect is judging my outfits. :blushing:

Lots of people get that feeling.. its pretty common actually ... But you gotta start to get over it.. so start tomorrow.. because you will never get over it if you dont.

    stay strong
  • everyone commenting on here was really awesome - but taylerr88 you hit home the hardest - ive always been one to let things take over my life - i have to start somewhere.

The best advice I can offer is this, when you finish a workout, you have to let yourself know that it was good. The more you tell yourself you look good, the more you will believe it. Good health is probably about 75% mental attitude.

Do you feel silly sometimes, sure, but so what, I do my exercises wearing nothing but a knee brace and a sweat band. I would hate to think what someone might see if they peeked in my window. But afterwards, when I walk pass the mirror in the bathroom, I look straight into it and say "Damn you look good", and all the time I look better, and feel better.

These things build on each other, and reinforce each other. You just need a good positive mental attitude. It can be hard at first, but it gets much easier the more you do it.
