How do you pace

Ok I'm no experience athelte or anything and find I have access here to some. I'm starting to get into running a bit. I don't go far as my chest burns or my lovely Fred Flintstone feet will start hurting where my arches should be. I find I give my all when I do run and wonder maybe I'm going too fast.
I often read on here that one must pace themselves but how does one do so? I find I sorta try but I think I'm naturally a sprinter and not long distance which sucks bc I need to burn all these lovely lbs off.
TIA

For me, I downloaded some millitary cadence songs. You can find all different varieties. They motivate me, keep me at a perfect pace and if you listen to the words they will drive you!
ie;
aint no sense in lookin down...
1mile no good, 2miles gettin better...
I love PT, feel good, look good
PT PT every day, etc etc etc0 -
i think you're supposed to run at a "comfortable" pace, as in if you were running with a friend you could easily have a conversation. toward the end of a run, that may become more difficult, but at no point should you want to die :P0

Find a running buddy and go slow. And then go slower than that. Or preplan your route (mapmyrun.com), learn where every 0.25mile marker is, figure out how long it should take you to run it, and then check your watch when you get there and slow down if you need to. Or if you have access to a tredmill, use it to learn what a slower pace feels like. I had the exact same problem but I've learned to run slow... maybe too slow.0

Ok thank you all. I run on the treadmill since I'm like friend challenge. I wonder if I need to hit the dr for a asthma pump since I am asthmatic as well. That may help with my chest burning..thank you all again.0
