Should I cut my hair!?

I'm thinking of cutting it even though I love long hair. The problem is that I wear it up in a bun or pony tail like 99% of the time. It's getting humid where I live and it's just too much to keep it down. I even have to wear it in a bun when I sleep! The only time I wear it down is when my husband and I go out, which isn't very often.

Here's what it looks like right now:

and here are a few haircuts I was looking at:

I have been down this road and every time I regret it! You have beautiful hair  I have the same problem and I have forced myself to do my hair and wear it down. It is a pain:laugh:
They are both very cute cuts post what you decide!

If your wanting to have a different hairstyle, go with the longer of the two first. Bob's pretty much look great on everyone.

Agreed! I'd cut it if it's giving you that much grief, but don't go too short to start off with - you can always go shorter if you like it :o)

I say go for it! I used to have hair like yours, then about a year and a half ago, after much wishing I had the guts to chop it off, I did. And it was awesome. I cut it into sort of like the first cut you posted (but also went with bangs) and after the initial first three days of "OHMYGOD, what did I do?!?" I fell in love with it. Funny enough, recently I just chopped it shorter and now I have almost exactly the second cut you posted! I love it short - requires lhardly any time and it just feels great to not be weighed down by all that hair :) if you hate it, the worst that you have to do is grow it back! And also, do you have an awesome stylist that you trust? My stylist would never do something that she feels would look bad on me, so I always ask her opinion first ;)

Depends how much time you have to devote to it.

Short hairstyles take a lot longer in the morning and more regular trims to keep the shape.
That's one of the reasons why I have long hair, up in a bun and ready to go lol!

I have the same problem. My hair is long and grows very fast. I live in Texas so it gets crazy hot here in the Summer and I almost always cut it off in a bob. I think if you are ready for a change go for it and I love the first style and think you would look great with it.

Keep in mind you can always cut your hair and donate it to Locks of Love to help make wigs for cancer patients. I cut 12" off mine last Summer and 6" off my daughters to donate. I have the problem that when I cut it I always regret it because it is so much easier with 4 kids to toss your hair in a pony tail.

Good luck making the choice and be sure to post new pics if you cut it. Can't wait to see!

I've never regretted cutting my hair short. Every time I cut it, I wonder why I ever grew it out!

But it depends on the cut. It looks like you have really thick, wavy (gorgeous, and I'm so very, very jealous) hair, so something smooth and sleek like Posh's would take a long time to flatiron and probably frizz out during the course of the day. Something like Pink's that's purposely messy... you just can't screw up a style like that.

Cut it. Mine was super long when I started MFP, and it was just gross when working out. I cut it right up to my chin. You can take a look in my pics.

Is that your hair naturally in the pic? If so, I don't recommend the Victoria cut. Ive had it, I loved it, but I have naturally very straight hair. Pinks might work better.

All in all, even though I am growing my hair out (I cut it super short then grow it out every couples years for a change) ive always enjoyed short hair. Low maintenance and with a little styling gue, you can ha e awesome hair styles!!!
  • Ok for sake of upfront honesty. I have hair that is 3 feet long possibly longer. Every summer and (workout session) I have to put my hair up (braids) and then deal with the intense workout sweat and humid air in the summer. I do go thru extra steps to make sure my hair gets brushed in the summer due to humidity and yes it is A LOT more "daily" work than the average girl who has short hair. For me personally I have had extremely short hair in my teens and preteen stage and really long hair now. So, I've been on both sides of the spectrum. I personally love my loooong hair and I enjoy everything you can do with "braids" with long hair and not to mention the fall, winter and spring time I can wear my hair down and it looks amazing!!!!! Literally its like fairytale hair. I <3 it.

I think you have really pretty hair and relatively "thick" hair and its pretty. If you have the stamina to handle the long hair I personally in my own opinion believe its completely worth it. I tell myself every workout that I burn a few extra calories because I have so much hair up top. (I sweat a looot) whether it be true or not haha, I still tell myself that. I dunno I look good whether my hair be short or long I just prefer it to be really long.

Do what you think will make you feel happy and thats all that matters.

(I wish I had a better photo to show what my hair looks like. In this photo my hair was straighten with a flat iron. I like it more when I just leave my hair normal I just don't have photos really of myself. I'm to busy taking the photos)

Trim and style...........maybe like Victoria's...........but a little longer!!!! If you are willing to take the time to do it up, everyday...........If your like me, and just pull it back, Just a nice trim will do...............Not to sound mean, but I don't think you have the face for short hair, I think medium or long would look better on you!!! Just my opinion! I usually just pull mine back in a ponytail.........my profile has it down, but I only do that about 3-4 times a year.....................as you could tell...............it's all frizzed out from the hair tie!!!

Just make sure if you cut your hair you are completely and utterly 100% sure of it.

I chopped mine off last summer after it was about chest length. It was so ratty and I had permed it and basically destroyed it. Plus I never got it trimmed so it was really unhealthy looking.

Getting it cut short was at first very traumatizing because I did not have decent hair products or tools to fashion it with so I let my crappy perm show for awhile because it took FOREVER to straighten my hair with crappy stuff. That really got down on my self esteem as I looked like a boy or some type of lazy person so I stepped up the game.

I got highlights done after going through a few bad choices of store dye and DO NOT regret it at all. My hair looks much brighter.

I also decided just recently to stop with the $30 straighteners, crappy $4 shampoo/conditioners and other yucky stuff and bumped up my standards to some really good stuff. (this is ONLY advisable if you have cash to burn on hair maintenance which I see as a long term investment) I also commit myself to go to a salon every 8 weeks at maximum to get my hair properly trimmed and the roots touched up.

This has made my self esteem SO MUCH better! I feel like I'm taking care of my body the way it deserves to be treated and I am also able to sport really awesome hair. My profile does not show this sadly because I have not been able to have access to a decent camera recently. But still... cutting your hair or making any changes is only worth it if you are willing to take care of it.

    Good luck!

I am currently in beauty school and in my experience if you have quite long hair and desire a drastic change you wont be happy untill you do that. HOWEVER you will be very shocked if you hack it all off in one go. Go in ask for an aline bob with the longest bit at your shoulders and the shortest where you neck meets spine( long version of the VBeckham pic). Then if you like that go for the shorter version or jump to the kind of cut pink has.

Fair warning though, you appear to have thick, wavy hair naturally and unless you are willing to style it every day you will likely hate these styles. The one pink has would be easy just get out of the shower smoosh in some gel and air dry, or blow dry half way then gel and air the rest. The vbeckham one youd need to blowdry and flat iron each time. Also ask them to do some interior cutting to thin out the bulk of the hair no matter what you get done. And if you get the one pink has ask them to cut the top in a way that you can pull it down into bangs, that way you can throw the bangs forward, scrunch up the rest and add a headband for a more feminine style.

I would cut it like the Victoria Becham cut. Only 3 to 4 inches longer. Where it hits just the top of your shoulders. Thats how I would cut it if you came to me for a cut. I've had my license for over 20 years. That way you could wear it straightened or you could still set it, with a wavy fuller look too.

I have had numerous bad hair cuts, sometimes I get a great cut. When I consider chopping it again I always go into the hair dresser with the understanding that a. change is as good as a holiday and b. if it all goes wrong it will grow back.

I think you'd look lovely either way.

if you really do want to cut it, id go with the first one. it gives you the illusion of some length with the angles. it might be a good way to adjust to shorter hair before doing something like the second one. :)

You've been married just long enough to qualify for the "trap a man with long hair and then cut it all off" club.

Just kidding...I poke fun at my wife for doing this after we got married.

All the guys will tell you to keep it long, and the ladies, who have to deal with the care of long hair, will tell you to cut it.

i agree with the other girls... cut it like vic beckham ONLY if you're willing to flat iron it. because your hair is long right now, it helps to weight down the curl. getting it cut without putting some time into it could make you a very unhappy camper (i know, only because i've been there done that, never going there again and have the same type of hair as you).

i definitely wouldn't do the style of pinks hair with your hair texture. eek. that could turn out really puffy.
  • ok what i do before i do anything to my hair is use this website - www.taaz.com it's a virtual makeover website and i am in LOVE with it. i can test eyeshadows, lipstick, mascara, hair colours and cuts BEFORE i go out and spend hard earned money on something i could regret. it's an all in one center ;)

listen ive had both of those hair styles i prefer the longer of the two because when you want to grow it back there are way to many akward stages and you cant do anything with except look like a hot mess, but the other i'd cut mine like that again if my BF wouldnt leave me (he really wouldnt but i respect what he thinks). bottom line your gonna look great either way.
  • I just went through this. I have a stylist who will not chop off my hair with any hasty decisions. Sometimes I would like to fire her but she saves my sanity. Mostly I like my hair EXCEPT for when it starts to get hot. I live in Arizona, so it gets hot and seems to stay hot. So like you I pile it on top of my head in some form or another until the day it cools off again. My hair is very thick, sometimes I say I feel like a Saint Bernard. Lol ! I went to my stylist 3 days ago with full intentions of cutting it to a bob. She gave me long layers and thinned my hair a bit, then I got a few highlights. I thnk she had a great idea...something to think over??? If you do decided to cut it I think the first pic would be cute on you :)

I would go for a diagonal forward, preserves some length, but is still shorter and a big change. It would also suit your face better. I'm a hairstylist.

    Something like these;

You should cut it. It'll grow back if you miss the long hair. I just cut mine off, my profile is my new hair do....just got it did yesterday :)
  • Every time I cut my long hair short - I REGRET IT BIG TIME !!!   DON'T DO IT !!

I suffer from "hot flushes" ever since chemo and I HAD long thick hair, jezz it would get hot under the hair, and like you, also kept it up in a bun 99% of the time. But I regret cutting it, mine is about as long as the pink photo. Not happy now. Dying to grow it long again, you can do so much more than just a bun with long hair. With short hair you brush it, its one, and its the only style you can have.:flowerforyou:

Unless your hair is totally straight, the Posh look isn't gonna work, you think she wakes up like that, no she has her own private hair stylist every day to get it looking like that.

    Cheers

With the first style you could still pull the sides back when you wanted to just get it up and out of your face quickly.
