So I chose to not drink tonight and I have to admit it sucks. I'm 21 and I should be going out with friends and enjoying a few drinks but I heard that drinking while trying to lose weight isn't a good idea. Just had to vent!!

Disagree - you can drink but don't over do it and try not to munch mindlessly while drinking...That was where I messed up until I started MFP.0

hey, one day would be ok. Go have fun!! If you'll be dancing, then you could burn some of it off
oh, and what sucks is im turning 21 on thursday... so no going out for me!0 -
I chose not to drink tonight as well while everyone else did. It sucked - I agree but I know that it is for my own good and I want to see that number on the scale move down more than I want to drink.
You should be very proud of yourself. It takes a lot of will power and determination to not drink and stick to your diet. Great Job!!!
Happy St. Patricks Day!0 -
Having a few drinks on a special occasion isn't going to suddenly make you gain like 20 lbs.
Also, just because you're 21 doesn't mean you have to party party party. To each their own though.0 -
Go have a drink. Stick to hard clear liquors and sugar free mixers, e.g. vodka + diet coke.0

Just bc your 21 does not mean you have to go out and drink...:noway:0

I'm not drinking either. I probably could but I don't want to feel like crap tomorrow when I go to the gym. Next time just have one drink and enjoy it.0

I can't drink tonight because I have a race tomorrow morning. I was invited to a party and was going to go but then I didn't want to sit around watching everyone get drunk and act stupid...so here I am...lol0

I don't know about you, but for me what I'm doing is a lifestyle change, not just a time in my life when I'll be losing weight. I have to do something I can maintain in the long term! If you decide to go out and have a drink and be careful what you snack on, then plan it into your day and compensate for it! Make sure you go for a walk or do some extra exercise and fit it in to your new life!0

I'm deployed and can't drink. Haha.0

if you budgeted in your daily calorie goal and you have enough calories left go ahead and have a drink or two. this is what I am gonna do. it will help moderate my drinking habits so that is a good thing. have fun!! and dancing is a good idea if you want to burn extra calories, you also can look up the calorie amount on here in almost any alcohol drink and it will tell you that wil help you decide what to drink and what to avoid.0

I drank last night so tonight I didn't. I allow myself once a week. Some weeks I drink and some weeks I don't. But if you are constantly depriving yourself then you will go off your diet in a bad way. But I did get on the treadmill today to make sure I had some exercise calories in case I wanted a green beer. So put in the extra exercise time if you want to go out and play. Then get up the next morning, get back on track and keep going. Remember you are in for the long haul and there will be bumps along the road.0

Hey, same here. I'm headed to a house party where everyone will be boozing it up but have decided not to drink either.
If your only motivation to not drink is worrying about your weight, I agree with the few shots in a diet mixer. Plenty of other health reasons, though.
Either way, have fun!0 -
Thanks everyone maybe I'll just have 1 drink I was told to not drink at all. And another reason why I hesitated to have a couple is because once i start drinking I don't stop until I mistake my husband for mark Walberg ( i dont have a drinking problem lol just like to have a little fun!) ....And because I tend to munch a little to much after a few drinks.0

I have not had a drop to drink either, and honestly I don't miss it but that's just me. I don't need it to have fun. Heck, go out with your friends, dance and have fun. They will appreciate having someone sober to drive them home safely.0

When they make a nonalcoholic guiness on tap, it will be all over for me. I don't like the buzz from beer, but I love the taste. I would drink much more if it weren't inebriating.0

When you get older you'll realize that drinking on St. Patty's Day was really a stupid excuse to drink yourself stupid, so in the grand scheme of things, you're not missing out.
And, like others have said, you can still go out and not feel like you have to get wasted to have a great time. That is having a drunk time, not a time that is fun on it's own merits.0 -
trust me it is very hard for me too..and i am 40 and going out with my drinking friends..:( ahhhhhh i so frustrated..venting with u0
