How to slim hips/butt

What are some excercises I can do to help with slimming down my hips and butt? I'm losing inches quite a bit in my stomach/waist area but my hips are going a lot slower so it's giving me a very wierd and unbalanced look.

You can't target where the fat cells will disappear from but you can target that area to tone. Squats are always good - but most people do them incorrectly. Your knees should never go over your toes. Most people just lower their butt and so the knees go straight out. The proper way to do a squat is to down and back like your trying to sit down.

Can't spot reduce any area with exercise. Unfortunately your body decides how fat comes off based on your genetics. Unless you're willing to go under the knife to correct it, you just have to keep plugging away at calorie deficit and continue to exercise.

Squatting and lunging are the best exercises to improve those areas, but your body will lose fat where it wants to and problem areas are always the last 2 go. For instance I have a lot of stomach fat and I have a small round pouch in the middle of my belly even though my oblique muscles and back muscles are firm. I hate it but it will be the last thing to go unfortunately.

I'm doing the 30DS and that Jillian chick said the same thing. I probably had been doing them wrong for years.

Tae Bo or even The Butt Bible. You can preview both on youtube.
  • I believe that spinning class and walking help a lot :)

Walking has helped me a LOT. If you can find hills, stairs, etc. it would be even better. And squats! If you do them correctly you'll find it hard to sit down on the toilet seat. :)

Most of my extra weight is in my hips and thighs but I am losing weight from my stomach at a greater rate so I'm going through a pear-shaped phase right now.

Squats are the best hip and butt exercise known to man, however, Im afraid no specific type of exercise will spot reduce fat in an area. Just have to continue to lose fat and it will eventually shrink everywhere, including your problem areas.

the OP didn't say "how do I spot reduce to lose fat in my hips and butt?". People always assume this whenever people speak about a target area. you can in fact work on "slimming" a specific area!

so yeah, please let us know what exercises we can do to work those muscle groups to effect a change in those areas!

I have the opposite problem!! My hips/butt are reducing, but my waist and stomach aren't!! Tell me your secret please!!

I am doing lots of circuit training that features intervals of squats / cardio / reverse crunches. :flowerforyou:

I'm doing Jillian Michael's 'Killer Buns & Thighs' It's a killer but really works that area.

Just stick to it. It will change. About two months ago I had a tiny little waist but hadn't lost much in the hips - now it's shifted, and it's dropping off the hips. I'm kind of sad because I had an hourglass thing going on, and now I'm in some awkward transition. I was doing Jillian DVD's and every two weeks my body seemed so different than it was 2 weeks prior.

Hip adduction and abduction exercises works your inner and outer thigh
hip extensors is one for the glutes and hamstrings
also dead lifts will work lower back and hamsstrings
    of course lunges and squats.
plie' Squats will work the inner and outer thigh muscles

You can alss try some plyometrics; intense cardio fat burn and works your lowers pretty good to help burn that excess fat.

Reduce sugar, it specifically adds fat to the centre of your tummy area and to your "love handles"

    Lunges, interval sprints, hill running.
Pilates and yoga help slim and tone those areas as well.
