29 inch waist, 37 inch hips.

I'm a size 10 in jeans for most brands, and a size 8/M in dresses.

Cynical old fart answer.... there's absolutely no consistency in women's clothing sizes. You can grab three pairs of pants in the same exact size and style and have one too big, one too small and one just right!

So grab what size you think you might wear, and a size above and a size below. Don't give a damn what the tag says, just buy what fits and looks fabulous.

Honestly, they vary quite a bit. If you don't want to buy new stuff, you can take your pants to a tailor and have them taken in. It doesn't cost much to do this.

    Congratulations!!! :)

Be prepared for anything. I just did some spring shopping. My spring clothes from the last decade range from 16 to 22. It was soooo fun to be able to look anywhere in the store for clothes! I will say that the sizes and fits were all over the place. I bought a size 10 skirt and a 12P pair of pants. I just know I get to retire all my size 16(s)! Enjoy your shopping trip. Bring an honest friend along for feedback.

I know we are all focused on that magic tag number, but it really should just be about what FITS you well. Women's sizes are so inconsistent that it can vary widely. No one will ever see the tag except for you! It's not like it's stamped on the outside lol. Last summer I realized that I had pants that were sized 8, 10, and 12, and all of them fit!

That being said, right now I USUALLY wear a 12, and I have a 32 inch waist and 43 inch hips... but it all depends on brand, cut, material, etc. With women's clothes, I could find someone with the same height, weight, and basic measurements and we probably wouldn't fit in all the same pants. Ugh! Why can't we have sizes like men's sizes?

I agree with LorinaLynn - I am anywhere from 4 to 8, depending on brand! Some of the 8's are barely zippable, where some of the 4's have a bit of wiggle room. It's crazy. FYI, my waist is about 28" and hips are about 37"!

Yup! Even sometimes in the same brand.

Natural waist 28.75, waist at belly button 35.5, hips 38.75. Size 10 is big in the waist, fits in the hips, 9 fits the waist but tight in hips.

Yup, you just have to try them and see.... sizes are different from brand to brand and very different in different parts of the world. A US 14 is an 18 in Australia and about a 42 or so (not sure about that, please correct me if I'm wrong) in Europe. Some brands I've see use 1 - 5 numbers as sizes.
Just grab a bunch of clothes and enjoy yourself trying them on!

It's a great feeling isn't it!. I've just got in to 14 jeans and saturday I got into some 12-14 PJ's cos my 14's were really baggy already and had only got them at xmas. I know PJ's are made more roomy anyway but its still great to see 12-14 on the tags instead of 20's!

Now If I can just get my tummy smaller I might fit in 12 Jeans too sometime this year.. lol!

Totally agree, I used to get so hung up about what it says on the label, but ignore it and buy something for the fit. Enjoy your shopping! x

WTG! Keep up the good work and you won't "prob have to buy new wardrobe", you WILL buy a new wardrobe :-)
My goal in not only this journey but for life is to never weigh over 150 again and never have to buy double digit size (for bottoms anyway)...in some styles I'm there and others close. HAPPY SPRING!

Yeah, that. Sizes vary greatly between different stores and brands. Go to the store, pick up a pair that you think might be the right size (you know, hold them up to your body and see if you think they'll work), then pick up maybe 1 size smaller and 1 size bigger and go try them on. You might even have to go smaller than you think, the first time I went shopping after losing my first bit of weight I was shocked that I needed to go down TWO sizes, not just 1 (in the same brand jeans I've been wearing). So grab something that you like in several different sizes and hit the dressing room.
