Breakfast and Water

What things are you doing on your journey to an improved you that you would not have done as the unhealthy you?

I will be the first to admit that I have never been one for eating breakfast or drinking water. I just read a post where an MFP buddy asked for suggestions on how they can get the required amount of water in throughout the day when she absolutely hates water. What bothered me the most was the many MFP buddies who told her they couldn't understand how she "hated" water. It wasn't an inquiry for anyone to understand, but rather to offer suggestions. Anyway, she received many suggestions. Her posts prompted me to quickly write about how drinking water, of which I am not a fan, and eating breakfasts have REALLY helped me along this journey of weight loss.

I can only tell you about MY experience. I am not an expert and there are different strokes for different folks. The statement that breakfast is the most important meal of the day is so true! When I eat breakfast I notice that my workout is easier, I am full longer, and more energetic. Not just any ol breakfast, but a nice, low calorie, high protein breakfast. I now make sure that I eat breakfast and do not skip, even when I am not hungry.

Water, water, water. ECK! I use to need juice and diet ginger ale, but then I started drinking it with Crystal Light. I'm sorry, but a plain lemon to water w/ no sugar was not on my list to try. Even better is the newest product, MIO. This water enhancer is also in the Walmart brand (cheaper too) and tastes fabulous. I drink 8-10 glasses a day. I do buy flavored waters too. Peach, lemon, strawberry, etc. During my workouts, I drink the water plain. I do Spin Cycle and you must stay hydrated. I don't have time to not like water....LOL....

Anyway, when people ask our opinion, we should try to be less negative and more supportive. Start with suggestions from your own experiences. Remember that we have all at one time struggled or are currently struggling with our weight. No one needs negative comments.

first of all, i too am trying to eat a nice healthy breakfast every day and get at least 8 glasses of water in. i hate water, too, so it's kind of difficult - especially since i'm trying to cut down on sweeteners (aspartame, sucralose, etc.) my new best friend is tea! yea, it has caffeine in it, but i still count it as my water ;)

i also agree with being less negative on these forums. i don't understand where people get their manners sometimes. weren't they ever taught if you don't have any thing nice to say, don't say anything at all?

I'm pleased to see this. I read probably the same post about ten mins ago and could not believe the amount of sarcastic posts that had been made in response to the poor girl's question.

I hate water on its own too. I think it's vile.
  • Chai tea is my absolute fave @Kaitlyn. I hear ya! I love me some tea!!!! I, too, count the 8 oz of hot water as part of my water intake.
Right! @Joannie. There were more negative comments than suggestions. She ignored them, but was sure to thank those who offered suggestions. Applause and good luck to her with the water issue (been there, done that, and know how she feels....lol)

I have always ate breakfast, but was never a water fan either... I now drink 6-8 cups of water a day. I to don't like it plain.. I buy the flavor pouches - I love wylers pink lemonade & it is sugar free.. I like ice cold water on a hot day, but other than that I use my pouches.. I do still drink my diet pop occasionally.. But I only allow myself a glass after I get my water in for the day.. And some nights I just stick with water. I sometimes get to much soduim in my diet so I feel the water helps keep me flushing that out.. To each his own but this works for me.. I agree with to much negativity.. We need to stay as positive as we can.. Everyone has bad days - but some people let them turn into weeks..

I so agree with you, especially leaving the negative comments out of replies. I've not experienced any, however I have seen others who have had that experience.

I *try* to get in my daily water with coffee in the morning, before each meal and before I eat a craved but not so good snack. It is a chore sometimes. I enjoy my own concoction of 1/2 glass water to 1/2 glass seltzer water and either a few slices of lemon or lime, or even a splash of juice or MIO. That faux taste of a soda type drink really helps me on those days where water plain just isn't cutting it.

I find I consistently do better when I exercise first thing in the morning. Therefore my breakfast is sometimes pushed off until 10am or later...usually someone else's lunch time! I work part time so rushing out the door is not an issue because I usually work evenings. I will eat a banana if hungry before working out or a yogurt, then have a high protein breakfast after my shower. This usually sustains me for most of the afternoon with a low calorie snack while making dinner.

I hopes this helps someone along their journey! I've been on MFP for several years off and on ~ and these are things that have helped me stay under my numbers and loose weight. I have been on here 101 days this time around ~ the longest yet ~ and I have released half the weight I want to in order to be in the normal weight range for my age. Much luck to all, and thank you for your post!

I always eat breakfast (I tend to get sick if I don't), but I struggle with the water requirement... I just get two glasses of water with each meal and force myself to drink them. I don't mind the taste of water itself - I just don't ever consciously think about drinking water...
