Strength Training without LEUCINE

I am quite sure I am the only person of MFP with an intollerance to Leucine, iso-leucine and valine...excessive consumption of these amino acids can well... kill me.

After doing a little research, I now realize that without lots of leucine in my life, I might never be able to develop muscular strength and tone my body, once I lose more weight.

Very disheartening. Leucine has been my nemesis since birth. It is evil. Life would have been simpler if I was intollerant to Phenylalanine, but no of course not.

So anyway, does anyone know how I can tone myself without the "aid" of Leucine (isoleucine and valine)? Apparently these ever so annoying amino acids are responsible for most of the muscle functions and development.

I consume 30-35grams of protein (From food) per day that can have Leucine...other than that, I take leucine-FREE protein supplements.

I do not want the strength training I do to be in vain.

You have an intolerance to an essential amino acid?

yes, I believe that's what I said: it can kill me...so if you think death = an intolerance, then I suppose I chose the right word.

Questioning what I wrote isn't really helpful...

This is a very personal subject for me and i'm a little upset that the weight lifting I do might end up being for nothing...so some HELPFUL advice would be great, if anyone has any...

Well I'd like to help, but I don't fully understand. Excessive amounts of anything, for anyone, can kill (water and sodium being the obvious ones).

If it helps, I can assure you, that absolutely nobody needs to supplement with individual amino acids, and due to them competing for receptors, is more likely to cause an imbalance anyway.

Eat real food, follow your doctor/dietician's advice, and know that your strength training is not in vain dispite what the supplement companies would have you believe.

I have a medical condition. Leucine, Isoleucine and Valine are toxic to my body. I consume 30-35 grams of intact protein a day and supplement the rest of my protein with Leucine-Free, Isoleucine-Free and Valine-Free supplements.

These amino acids are apparently a necessity for muscle building and repairing. So I'm trying to figure out if anyone has any idea if i should even stick with the strength training that i've been doing? Maybe someone reading this has some advice or suggestions or well, who knows what...

I'm not suggesting that people out there take Branch chain amino acid supplements....but I can't even take the protein powder most people on MFP do. I have to take specialized the protein supplements I mentioned earlier (cost $5,000 a month) and they're devoid of Leucine, isoleucine and valine.

I'm not sure if i can supplement anything else for muscle building, but i'm open to suggestions.

The are 20 amino acids yout body uses for various functions that stop you dying, 8 of these are essential (can only be obtained from food) all which are present in complete proteins, such as meat, eggs and fish.

The three you mention are within this group of 8 and you will be getting them from these sources, as well as varying combinations from other foods like veg, fruit and grains.

Good luck, but for something so specialist, I'd run any advice you get from here past your doctor first.

I'm a vegetarian and have been since birth, because of my medical condition.

So none of those sources you listed are ones i can use.

I feel like you don't understand that there are certain medical conditions that prohibit the consumption of amino acids (in excess of x)

My condition deals with the branch chain amino acids. A similar condition deals with Phenylalanine. I can have Phenylalanine, and those with Phenylketonuria can have the branch chain amino acids that I can not.

I just want to be able to strength train, build muscles, and do so with my current diet - which won't harm me....i don't want to have to take protein supplements that will inevitably kill me. that would be illogical, to say the least.

and clearly this could go on all night...
