I started with MFP a little over a month ago. My diet at that time was horrible with a bunch of fast food and junk. I have been watching my calories using MFP and doing some exercising every week. The calories I have been taking in haven’t exactly been ideal. I think I am still not eating the best, just not as much. I figure the weight I am loosing will probably stop soon and I will need to really start concentrating on the good stuff. I assume that everyone is different on what works for that person. I am curious on what is more important, straight calories or type of calories?

My daily intake is 1950cal which I usually don’t get very close to.

Would you fuel a Maserati with low octane fuel? Why fuel your body with crappy foods? Quality will become far more important soon. If you want to get to goal, and live a healthier lifestyle, you need to get used to eating high quality foods. Fresh fruits and vegetables, lean protein, whole grains, etc. will help you maintain your losses, and you'll feel better in the long run too!

As long as you're creating a deficit, you'll lose, no matter the quality of the food. (Look at that one professor's twinkie diet!) However, to create lasting weight loss, you have to focus on eating better. You'd be amazed at the difference, especially when you get closer to your goal weight.

I understand what you are saying, but a person has to have some treats, right. My wife goes crazy because she won't touch anything even if its like one single m&m or something. I would go crazy. I know I will have to really change things up soon, but I still need some treats so I don't go crazy.
