I was just in Australia for 8 days and lost 7 pounds while there. I kept telling myself that my fitness trainer was going to be weighing me as soon as I got back and I wanted to make her proud that I didn't gain. We walked and walked and were so busy that we had no time to snack/pick at food like I do when I'm at home. So, I would say the key to staying motivated was knowing that when I got home I had to face the scales and it worked like a charm!

Trying to find fun ways to stay active while on vacation helps me a lot.
We usually do a lot of walking, exploring new places etc.

I agree that keeping busy helps too.

Just the fact that you are aware of it will also help.
Going into vacation with the 'it's vacation time and I can make up for it when we get back home" attitude is one that gets you into trouble.
It's so easy to pack on a lot of pounds and then having to re lose them sucks so much and of course we all know how much easier it is to put them on than to take them off.
So staying aware of what you put into your mouth / body will help.

Good luck to you and HAVE FUN!!!!

It's like ur reading my mind!!! I'm going on vacation soon to an all-inclusive resort (food and alcohol). So, I am worried about the same thing, but honestly I have done it before. The good thing is that I tend to stick to my workout schedule as much as possible even on vacation because I know that I will be indulging in treats that I normally would not. Plus, I try to offset the indulgences with healthier choices whenever possible and try to stick to my normal diet as much as possible which can be a challenge since you can plan/cook your meals as normal. Just do the best that you can and try to make smart choices. I agree with everyone else...keep moving and stay busy and plan a few workouts if you can.

I'm going on vacation in a couple of weeks and I have already been thinking about a shop where we are going that always has homemade candies. My favorites are turtles "on sterioids". They are absolutely to die for. I just need to make sure I cut it up in little pieces and not eat a whole one in one sitting. I haven't had chocolate in weeks - except for my chocolate protein shakes. And, I would typically eat chocolate every day.

Be reasonable about your food intake. Track your calories if it won't drive you crazy but if it will then don't. Try to gear your eating toward what will work best with WHO you are going with. If they like to eat a big breakfast, eat what you want at that meal and try to be healthy the rest of the day. Or if it's going out for fancy dinners, have healthier breakfast/lunch/snacks and enjoy your dinner having what you want. If you do this, you will still feel like you get to experience things with them and enjoy a nice meal each day but you won't go into "vacation mode" where you just eat anything you want all day long. This combined with extra walking or activities, swimming etc, and you should do FINE without having to worry too much. Good luck and enjoy!
