My first Gym membership

I'm getting my first gym membership this week and it is exciting and terrifying at the same time.
Exciting to be around others that have the same goals in mind but terrifying to put myself out there.... I mean, heaven forbid someone I know see me at my worst. YIKES!!!
I realize that it's stupid to let something as petty as that hold me back, that's why I'm finally doing this. My sister, who after having twins was back to her pre pregnancy body a month after giving birth without any effort at all, will be going with me.
So I will be the fat one working out next to the lady who looks like she doesn't need to be in the gym at all! Perfect!! lol
I love my sister, really I do but if she says her perfect *kitten* is fat one more time.....
I know she's doing this for me too and that's why even if she does mention her fat *kitten* one more time, I will roll my eyes and laugh instead of saying what I truly think!
Wish me luck!

Congrats! You may find going to the gym quite addictive once you're in a routine. I'm going 3 days a week, and I'm itching to be there more often! And I'm the one that did everything in my power to avoid going in the first place. I love walking out of the gym feeling powerful after a kick *kitten* workout.0

Fantastic! It doesn't matter who you are exercising with because you are there for you and no one else. Maybe your sis doesn't need it to drop the pounds but so more many benefits of exercise to get0

Hello,
I totally know what you mean, I feel like I live in a town of the stanford wives (remember that show?) everyone is perfect even wearing their exercise clothes to the grocery store, to make sure everyone knows they are perfect, and then there is me trying to not be noticed in my all black.
I to joined the gym ( I won't tell you how many weeks ago, being wasted) but with the weather being nontraditionaly nice out so i have only gone once, I promised myself 3- 5 times a week of real exercise and have been lucky if I have gotten 2 in. Today that is changing. Let us know how it goes and what you do. I have only gotten the courage to do the treadmill (which is why I feel like why go when I can just do that at home) and the bike.

SARA!!!! Find a workout partner. It sounds like you could benefit from having someone go with you. I myself go to the gym by myself 5 xs a week. Its my alone time, where noone needs anything from me...kids, friends, hubby...just me and I love it. Ask at the front desk to have someone walk you thru some of the weight machines, and if they offer a personal traininig session for free...take it and make them work you out so you will have a routine to follow!!!! Good luck!!!!0

I hate to put any negative spin on an awesome new venture, but which gym is it? After two family members recently joined Planet Fitness, I looked into it and the place is completely ridiculous and shouldn't even be allowed to call itself a gym. If it's a place that allows you to work out how YOU want and not how THEY limit you to, then congratulations and more power to you! But suprisingly the world of Globo-Gyms is not always what it seems to be. Even 24 Hour Fitness, which I personally don't think is as bad, will still fire excellent trainers with whom members (me) have worked for a year, because they're paying them too much and could be paying someone else less money; it's all about the bottom line to them.0

My best advice for going to the gym:
Work harder than everyone else, and you will feel like a rock star everytime you leave.0 -
Some great advice, thank you!!
Sare, I will totally post about my adventures at the gym. I am going to start with a spin class.
