Dieting: Pregnant AND counting calories?

Hi everyone!
We're currently trying to conceive and I was wondering if it is possible to continue dieting while you're pregnant? Is it dangerous? What would be the minimum daily calorie intake so that both the mom and the baby stay healthy?
I would really appreciate that you share your experience with me! I can't seem to find reliable sources with google search, so any personal advice would be welcomed.
Thank you!
Oh and btw, if it is of any help, my personal stats are:
24 y.o., 5'-8''
SW: 167
CW: 163
GW: 135

You'd need to factor in extra calories for the baby. I think it's something like 200 in the first tri, then it goes up as the baby gets bigger. I also wouldn't focus on loosing weight as that isn't the goal with pregnancy. But definietly focus on eating healthier. In the long run, that will probably help you loose the weight after the baby is born anyway. Good luck!!0

The best advice when the time comes it to check with your OB or midwife and perhaps a nutritionist.0

I agree! I lost 30 lbs prior to pregnancy but once I found out I was pregnant I stopped counting calories ate a bit more than I was, continued to eat healthy and exercise at the advice of my doctor. Most doctors will say if you're use to exercising before getting pregnant you can continue but don't add anything new. Again that is up to your doctor. I only gained 20 lbs during pregnancy and was back to pre-pregnancy weight with in 2 weeks of my c-section. My delivery was a breeze and barely any pain afterwards. I know it was due to keeping a healthy lifestyle during pregnancy. My first c-section I was not as into the "healthy lifestyle' and was miserable afterwards. My advice lose as much as you can before you get pregnant then don't worry about weight during, eat healthy and exercise if advised by your doctor then delivery should be a breeze and weight loss afterwards should be pretty effortless. Good luck!0 -
Thanks
I was stressing losing weight before the pregnancy because I heard it's better to have a healthy bmi when you're conceiving... We'll see how it turns out!0 -

I am here to lose weight before trying to conceive but I have about 107lbs to lose before I really want to try (I have 130-135lbs till my goal). Thanks for posting the thread as I thought it was interesting for future knowledge!0 -
Based on your stats, you probably shouldn't "diet" if you do become pregnant. You are not in the obese category so you will need to gain some weight when you are pregnant. You can still watch what you eat, but you will probably want to eat to maintain your current weight for the 1st trimester and then add in extra calories at leat for the 2nd and 3rd trimester. The most important thing is to listen to your body and eat when you are hungry. I am currently in my 1st trimester and this is my 3rd pregnancy so this is just my personal opinion based on experience.0
