Hey guys! Just curious -- are there any benefits (as far as weight loss is concerned) to sitting in a sauna for about 30 minutes at night?

I get in the sunlighten sauna about 3-4 times per week for about 20-30 minutes. I saw a special on my local t.v. station of a group of women who lost a good amount of weight by using the sauna alone. It is supposed to burn between 200-600 calories per 20-30 minutes. I think it all depends on your ht, wt, bmi, and all that but I just assume 200 calories when I sit in it. I've only been using it for about 2 weeks so I haven't seen results yet. A friend of mine was using it as well and eventually stopped using because she WAS losing weight!!!! Her cup size was shrinking I don't really have that problem but I'm hoping to shed some weight from using it!
I also have acne so I'm also hoping to see some skin rejuvenation with it as well.0 -

I don't think so....
I love the sauna though...and try to go at least 4-5 times a week for at least 20 minutes.0 -
I've heard a lot about it, but actually, no, you don't lose weight by just sitting there.
Well, except the water you sweat out, but that doesn't really count
It's just a myth.0 -

You'll sweat. Which supposedly gets some impurities and a bit of sodium out of your system. It's good for the pores and skin.
You won't lose weight or burn calories. At least no more calories than you'd be burning sitting around somewhere else.
I wear a BodyMedia Fit and often sit in the sauna in our apartment's fitness center. It doesn't register any higher calorie burn than when I sit on the couch.0 -

If by weight loss you mean water weight loss than sure?
Your body isn't going to miraculously burn fat because you're sitting in a hot room. You'll just sweat out all your water and therefore become dehydrated. And to fix that you will just drink more water, gaining back all the weight you "lost." Then you will sit in the sauna again.... cycle repeats.
I would think the benefits of a sauna are detoxing and relaxation. May help with muscle soreness or tightness.0 -
I've seen some pretty questionable claims made by companies selling saunas in respect to calories burned and weight loss. Relaxing and enjoyable......you bet!0
