OK. This messes me up all month long during weigh ins and I'm just curious as how it affects all you other women out there. I definitely gain at the end of the week before, but do you happen to see an increase the day or so of? And how are you affected afterwards for weigh ins the week after?
Just curious if it drives everyone else completely mad...

I see a gain in the few days prior to getting mine...and up until midway through it. I increase my water consumption, but it only seems to help at the tail end. I either stay the same, weight wise, or go up .5-1lb that week. The following week i'm down, but I'm now anticipating it, so I don't let it get me down.0

I go up a pound usually. But when I drink a lot of water, it brings down the weight again. Definitely isn't fair that only 2 or so weeks a month count towards weightloss. It is what it is, i guess.0

Yes, it did drive me mad. Absolutely and completely INSANE! (Ask me why I had a hysterectomy. Go ahead. Ask. Well, okay, that was a small part of the reason but the best part of the result.)
I used to lose about 3 pounds the night before, then gain 5-8 pounds the day of. Then, get this, it DIDN'T GO AWAY. I'd lose three or so pounds over the week, but then have to work the other five off again. So to lose five pounds in a month I had to really lose ten. It was the most frustrating thing in the world to me at the time. I hated it. (Betcha can't tell. )
Seriously, though, monthlies can mess with us in all kinds of crazy ways. :grumble: Best thing to do is drink lots of water, eat right, lay off salt, workout, and ignore the bloody scale. If your monthly screws with you but is at least regular in timing, make a habit if weighing in only once a month and make it about 1 week before. Otherwise you might end up in jail for murder from the level of frustration. AT least if yours is as annoying as mine was.
Okay, I'll stop ranting now. Sorry, I get passionate about this b/c it's so bloody annoying that women have to put up with this.0 -
Drives me insane!!!! Last month was really bad. Between the hormones and weight gain I wanted to cry. It made me depressed. I've lost it all and then some after, but I'm not looking forward to this month. :grumble:0

The only time I retain water when TOM starts is when I eat junk carbs the few days before. And it's just water. I will drop it as long as I back off the carbs. I don't eat whole grains so I don't know how they might affect it - apparently they were the cause of my life long belly bloat (and belly fat) - but only carbs affect how much water my body refuses to give up - not the TOM itself.
Having a period won't make you gain fat, though, unless you junk out in the days before.
It's only water. I can pack on 5-6 pounds of water in a couple of days eating junk carbs.0 -
This is only my second month of tracking MFP, and I take birth control so I only get it every other month. I noticed about a four pound gain last week, and was really depressed about it, but then yesterday I was five pounds down. I think this must have been it, but it was just surreal. This really is the crappiest thing about being a woman.0
