Hi - My name is Katie. I've just started this fitness pal thingy - and hopefully it'll help. I'm 32 yrs. old and live in Michigan. To make a very long story short - i've battled with weight my whole life - i'm either "too skinny" or "too overweight" - right now, I'm in the overweight part of my life. I've dieted with the "no carb" thing twice and lost 60 the first time and 70 the second time. Both times - gaining everything back and then some.

I am at my heaviest weight now - 5'8 280lbs. I really hope this helps. Anyone wanna be my weight loss friend - or just friend in general? I'm very easy to talk to.

Katie

That's where I was about a month and a half ago.

My fiance and I started our weight loss plan back at the beginning of February. We've slipped up a few times, but have kept on track!

BTW-I used to live in Michigan, which part are you at?

I am sending a request. It seems we are in the same boat. I have also struggled with my weight my entire life, and it is very frustrating and does tend to get me extremely depressed sometimes, I would be more than happy to have you as a friend to support each other.

I just joined again. I am so sick of the roller coaster ride. I keep going up and down and would love to just lose even if I didnt lose as much and keep it off. I am 202 right now. I was down to 164 which is the lowest I have been in the last ten years. I have tried several programs but I cant keep spending money just to gain the weight back. I would like to be 180 by June.

Feel free to add me, i started where u are 2 years ago, and i wont say its been easy, but the last 2 years have really made me a happier person. Your on the right track, so keep at it. Ive done the low carb thing in the past as well, and yes it does work, but more often than not, ive seen people gain that weight back, i just think completely cutting something like carbs out isnt a realistic lifetime goal, so having a more balanced diet is something u can maintain, sure it may take a little longer to drop the weight, but it also gives u time to build up self control, and for me at least i havent gained the weight back. So please feel free to add me, and we can keep each other motivated.

You have to stop dieting. Get a food scale. Portion size is sometimes enough to lose a lot of weight.
Educate yourself on healthy eating. Search online for healthy low cal recipes. Find healthy snacks. Cut processed and fast foods.
Watch your sodium. I cut anything made with white flour and cut portion size of everything else. Added lots of fresh or plain frozen vegetables, very little salt and no sauces. I use low cal lower carb whole grain breads, pitas and tortilla's when I make sandwiches. Read labels. Make your health your hobby.
If I try to eat different then I normally do I fail. The trick is to find healthier alternatives.

Hello Katie, welcome. I started using the site back in January and found it to be a great tool. I, like you , was at my heaviest point. The site helps me hold myself accountable for what I put in my mouth. It also helps me make sure that I am eating at least 1200 calories a day. The bottom line is that getting rid of the weight is hard, but the support and tools on site really help. Just sent you a request.
  • Hi
    I know how you feel!
My advice is to keep plugging along, and like yourself. A positive attitude will help you down the long road. Fitnesspal does work.......the biggest thing that helped me was it taught me to pick healthy choices. I was surprised at these small things like margarine & salad dressing , how many calories in them.
I've lost 30 lbs so far, and feel so much better. My knees don't hurt as much, and I feel better about myself. Also remember that it took years to put on alot of weight, so you can't lose it in a few weeks. Take baby steps and with every step you will reach your goal.Good luck in your transformation.
A friend who knows what your going thru!

Hi Katie! I'm there with you! Life long weight battler! I lost 35 pounds with weight watchers and diet drugs, then yo-yo'd with about 15 of those pounds. At the end of december I started counting calories and have lost 16 pounds since. I've got another 49 lbs to lose before I hit my big goal weight. I sent you a request!

Hi Katie, welcome! I have found so much support here, and logging in the food tracker plus water, has helped more than any other "diet" tool I have ever found. When I am feeling really munchie-especially in the evening,I will get my water, some veggies if I need it and sit down at the computer and get on mfp. I find so much support here. I know you will too! Like you,I have lost 60 or more lbs. twice and always put it back on. This is the last time, and I know I can do it cause this time I am doing it right. Good luck!

Aemely here... I lost about 15 lbs. using "another" MFP product that charged monthly, but I couldn't keep up the logging during my graduate degree. I'm working on getting to 40, I'm in a new town, and I've failed to keep up my exercise/eating regimen. I'm up 20 lbs. from my lowest... Bleh. Anyway, I know logging works, so I'm back to logging what I eat and how much I exercise. Feel free to add me as a friend!
  • Welcome Katie! I've been using the site for about a month now. I'm 5'4 and 228 lbs. I'm making small goals for myself right now so that I don't get overwhelmed! Ultimately for me it's more about being healthy than the number on the scale- I just want to feel better and be able to run around with my kids without feeling like I'm going to keel over! I know how easy it is to get depressed about your weight, but you have lots of support here! We are all in this together!
