So confused and frustrated!

Hi! I'm so confused and frustrated! When I put in my weight loss of 2lbs/week into MFP, it gave me a calorie goal of 1200 calories per day, even with exercising for 30 minutes every day. So I have ate 1200 calories every day, and exercised as well. I am on Level 2 of Jillian Michael's 30 day shred, plus is usually do 10-20 minutes of other cardio every day, and the days I don't work I exercise and additional 10-20 min on top of that.

So my frustration lies in that I have weighed the same for days! How is that possible? My BMR is 1539, so just be eating less than that I should loose weight, right? I have been exercising as well, so I just don't understand. Several people are telling me I need to increase my caloric intake. Is that the right thing to do? I feel like I'm eating right, working out, yet not loosing anything, and it's very discouraging.

  • I can't see your diary to see if it's related to what you are having. Several factors can work into this. Keep these things in mind:
    1) sodium holds onto water and makes "weight" appear to be holding on when it's not
    2) without enough water intake, #1 can happen here too
    3) too many carbs can result in #1
    4) sometimes body types have a "delayed" reaction to change. This delay can be a couple weeks or a couple months - once it starts though, it will keep going
    5) new routines can also make your body hold on to what it knows and not let the pounds dropped show... this is a temporary effect, but frustrating. Ironically enough, when you hit a plateau, it is also what you do to break those.... I didn't say it made sense ;)
    6) If you are not having enough calories for what your body wants, it will hold onto whatever it is given. If your body WANTS that 1200 calories and then you workout burning some, not eating them back can convince your body you won't refuel and it will hold on for deal life to the weight out of instinctual survival

    These are just a few of the things that can be a factor with lack of movement on the scale. Essentially any and all of these are big factors and you have to play around to find the one that is posing the obstacle to you. Advice I would offer .. keep sodium low, water intake high...and start adding 100-200 cal/day to your nutrition. Stick with it for 2 wks and see if that helps you budge. Be sure to eat at least a portion of your exercise calories back - your body needs them for fuel

    Thanks! Well when looking back my net calories have been between 800-900 and yesterday it was only 28. I think I'm going to try to keep my net calories at 1200 and see what happens. I'm going to watch my sodium intake more.
