I'm going to a Japanese Steak house tonight for dinner. I have had a VERY rough week (although I weighed in this morning at the lightest I've been since starting MFP!!) and my friend is taking me out to dinner tonight. I'm sure I will go over my calories a little bit, but I haven't in a long time, and I'm allowing myself to tonight, but I'd still like to minimize the damage as much as possible. This is some of the food the restaurant has that appealed to me from their website... what would be my best option? I'm usually pretty good at making decisions like this, but I always like to hear other people's opinions, too! :flowerforyou:

try and go with something with more vegetables.
minimize the sauce if you can, or go less sweet (so not teryaki or sweet and sour)
don't eat the rice-if you do don't eat more than a cups worth.
stick to chicken or fish (rather than steak)
don't add pop or alcohol-stick to water ;)

and tempura is deep fried-not good at all.

Udon is a usually a soba noodle. They are good :)
The beef shobayaki sounds really good. skip the rice although it's not refined.
Drink lots of water because japanese food uses a lot of tamari and soy sauce.

But probably not healthy, I'm assuming?

Udon noodles are made from wheat and flour. They are tasty, but it is still a heavy carb...on the plus side of the Nabeyaki udon bowl, it is usually udon noodles, chicken, and veggies in a miso soup (miso is soy based, so its not that bad for you actually) and the soup broth will make you full.

If I were you, i'd go with the veggie teppanyaki (the first choice). They make the food in front of you and you can usually just tell them how you want it prepared. Plus, they give you an option of white, fried, or brown rice (at least the place I go to does). The soup and salad are a good thing to have on the front end to fill you up so you don't take in so many cals with the main course.

I love Japanese food. Yum! Just remember with anything you get, its going to be sodium overkill, so drink lots of water! Have fun!

I ended up having Koong kaprow(sauteed shrimp w. onion, sweet peppers, fresh basil in Thai basil brown sauce). It was SO good, but I have no clue how to find/figure the nutrition facts for it... anyone have any thoughts?
