HRM as motivation?

I'll be honest, I hate exercising but I know I should start. I don't want to go over on calories but would like to get "exercise calories" to eat back along with develop my overall health. However, this site has gotten me paranoid for calorie counts. Everyone says the estimates are way off and I don't want to overeat. Recently, if I do any activity I don't log it at all just to be safe. So, with my birthday coming up I was thinking about buying a HRM (the Polar ft7) for the instant gratification and accuracy. But it's big investment and I don't know if it'll be worth it. Should I just exercise without one and guesstimate until I exercise regularly? Or, has anyone found that a HRM was the push they needed to finally get off the couch for good?

I don't rely on my Ft7 for an accurate calorie count, but I do rely on it for effective workouts. The feedback on how hard I'm working is invaluable. I know when to pick it up, and when it's okay to back off.0

I just received mine (polar ft60) and so far it's giving me extra motivation. I'm interested in seeing how much my overall health improves.0
