Tuna does price really matter?

Its amazing how many choices of tuna you have when you walk into your food market, in different price ranges. I decided to pick up Chicken of the sea sold white albacore tuna in water to give it a try it was expensive 10.00 for 8 cans at 7oz per can Ouch! I guess it's expensive since I used to buy the Walmart brand at 50 cents a can.. Is it worth paying more for better tuna or is their even such thing as better tuna what is the best brand and kind of tuna that you use :) I would love to learn more about whats going into my body almost daily :)

If you can't taste the difference between the chunk light and the solid white go for the cheaper chunk light tuna--it has less mercury than the solid white.

I always get the chunk light, packed in water. I've always liked it. Brand doesn't seem to make much difference

Do you have a trader joes close to you? If so, go buy their Tongol tuna. It is packed in actual water and no soy broth.

I don't buy that crap from the grocery store. They add gluten, soy and sugar to just anything and everything.

If you can't tell the difference, buy the cheaper stuff. Personally, I'm kind of a snob and always by the albacore. I grew up on the cheap stuff though, and never really knew the difference until well into my adult years.

I recently started buying albacore. As it relates to mercury levels, it is a larger fish than is used for chunk light, so it will have higher mercury levels. An article I read recommended limiting weekly consumption to 6 oz of albacore or 12 oz of chunk light to limit mercury exposure. But the EDF (Environ. Defense Fund) recommends limiting to once per month I believe.

On the flip side, albacore has 3x the amount of Omega 3's as the same serving size of chunk light. Chunk light has a third of the fat of albacore. So weigh your options.

Publix has the 4-pack of albacore BOGO this week in my area. I got 2 4-packs for about $5 total.

I only eat about 2-3 oz of albacore as a serving. And I don't eat it daily, so I'm not that concerned. It is a way more firm than chunk light and less fishy tasting to me. However, I will buy either.

forget tuna.... go for the sardines and herrings ;)

I too go for the cheap stuff as long as it is in water... added benefit if it says low sodium on the can...
