equipment for first time doing weights

OK. So, looking at the success stories it seems the bodies I like all seem to have done weights. Since I have so much to lose, I thought it's best I start lifting now. Don't wanna look all soft and sloppy. I mean, its one thing to look sloppy, but saggy and sloppy? I think I'd rather stay fat.....
Anyway, so I have bought a 6ft barbell which weights 10kg and 20kg of weights. I don't have anything else. And I know some people would say get into things slowly but I want everything I would need now! :laugh:
So my question is, do I really need a barbell bench? would a dumbbell bench be enough? Do I even need a bench? What other things or books or websites would you recommend? (I mean for a schedule. I really am a beginner lol)

Hi there! I hate cardio so I'm not arguing on that thread! haha
I just got the new rules for women...Love it so far, all i have are 2-15 lb hand weights, a large exercise ball and I just bought a new weight bench, it's got the chest press station with the seat that can incline. My issue is I'm strong enough to deadlift the bar with the max weights that I have (too cheap to buy more right now) and I'm too weak to throw the weight up to be able to squat it...Looks like I will have to buy a squat rack or work on clean and jerks.
On a light note please make sure you don't hurt yourself and always have a spotter...The first and ONLY time I ever tried to throw too much weight up to get the bar over my head to be able to do a squat with it I got to about just above boob height and went to get under the weight just to find out it was WAY too heavy and it bent my back...luckily I was not hurt so I can laugh about it (and about the bar shaped bruise on my tatas)
Correct your form with light weights first then go heavier once you accomplish that!0 -

i have been hearing a lot about this book. i'll have to buy it as i have no idea how to do anything correctly.
yes i hate cardio too haha but i'll still do my 30 mins a day0 -
I go for about a 2 mile walk a few times a week but it's just casually walking the dog...lol
I broke down and got the bench on craigs list, it's a small bench but in good shape I paid 150 for it. There are some great deals out there. I started with 2 8lb hand weights and the exercise ball.
The book is fantastic!! I got it used on amazon for a little over 9 bucks used but it looks brand new. Some poor sap probably did like I did with so many other programs and bought it then never used it.
Add me if you want and we can report progress and I can help as much as I can with work out ideas and good sites for movements. I took 4 years of weight lifting in HS (YIPES almost 7 years ago hehe) and at work I mostly sit around on weight lifting websites.0
