I started my weight loss plan last week, at 168 lbs. I'm 51 and have really been trying to watch the cals and to exercise. I've been an avid 'exerciser' since my 20's and know that my body has muscle memory, so the exercise is not new. Today I've actually gained 3 lbs and my measurements are no better. Has this happened to anyone else? Does anyone thing that possibly, at my age, my calorie intake should be less?

To really give you some help, it might be good if you opened your diary.
Just know that if you're eating on a deficit, you're not gaining fat. The weight gain is something else (water, muscle mass, etc).0 -
A lot has to do with when you weigh yourself. To be consistent you should weigh yourself first thing in the morning after emptying your bladder. Your body weight can fluctuate up to 5lb in a single day due to just the water in your system. Most people will exhale over 1 liter of water in breath each day, that's 2.2lb right there! Overnight when you sleep you will lose between 1.5 - 3lb. in expiration alone. Here is an article for reference.

Thanks so much for the reply. I really have been honest and am working hard. I think some of it may be hormonal weight gain...but thank you for caring enough to reply )0

Perhaps try dropping the calories a bit and see what happens. I think it is harder to lose when you are a little older0

Patience. Rome wasn't built in a day. Your weight can fluctuate up to five pounds on any given day due to many different factors.
Dial in your caloric needs and stick with it for a month, then re-evaluate.0 -
when did you weigh yourself? I always do it in to mourning before the shower around 9 hours after my last meal or piece of food. It is the most accurate time.0
