Calories Burned During Strength Training

I can log my cardio and get a pretty good estimate of my calories burned but how do you log weight/strength training and get the calories burned for that? Anyone have any ideas?

I just log strength training under the cardio and time myself so I know how many minutes to put in. I'm not sure how accurate that is, but I figure it can't be THAT far off. If anyone has a better idea, I'd like to hear it, too.0

I wear my HRM.
Typical burn for me is 300-400 kcal in 35 minutes, BUT.
(1) I'm 6'5" and 235#
(2) I warm up with 8 minutes jogging on the treadmill.
(3) When I'm done with a workout, I'm literally dripping sweat, as in, there are puddles on the floor under me. I'm not lifting heavy, but I go as hard as I can and only rest for a minute or so between sets.
I'd expect most people would burn fewer calories.0 -

A lot of people that wear HRM during strength training multiply the number by .7 or .8 to equate for the difference.0 -
I also log it under cardio and add it myself, I follow a DVD for all my strength workouts and I use a HRM......too difficult to add it on MFP's system for weights. I go by time, I don't list every single move I'm doing......0

strength training is aerobic. looking at my hrm, it says that for todays 45 minute session, my average bpm was 136 and highest was 172. but then again i strength train which means i lift heavy. my calories burned was 490, which is probably the most I've fine in a long while.
also any time your heart is beating your hrm can monitor your calories. unless someone really is lifting without their heart beating.0 -

I don't see the need for getting upset about this. Building strength is an anaerobic process because it produces quicker muscle fatigue as opposed to an aerobic exercise like jogging.0 -

I've done a lot of internet searching about this and read a lot of different things. It's really difficult to estimate because of the hundreds of variables involved (how many sets, how many reps, how heavy the weights, how long a rest periods between sets, your height, your weight, etc). The general consensus I've seen, is 7-8 calories per minute, if you're doing vigorous strength training, and not just light resistance. I tend to workout for roughly 45 minutes, including rests, but then I'll under guess my calories burned to roughly 200, because I'd rather underestimate than overestimate.
Admittedly, this is absolutely not a perfect system, and is questionable in its accuracy, but in terms of keeping my calories and hunger in check, I feel like I have to log my strength training, because it really does take a LOT of my energy to do, and a lot of eating to help replenish.0 -
